Funky 1970s Items Needed

Dear Parents and people from the 1970s,

Primary 4 are on the look out for some items for the 1970s show. If you have any of these items we can borrow you will be rewarded by a sherbert filled flying saucer or a dib dab!

  • Star Wars Costumes
  • Old jeans that can be customised

The Big Pedal

Onthank Primary are participating in this UK wide event.

25th – 29th March 2019

Try and walk, cycle or scoot to school every day next week.

If all week is too much try and aim for just WEDNESDAY 27th MARCH. We would love to have maximum participation.

Parents/Carers and siblings all count too.

Ensure your child travels safely and they can secure their bikes/scooters to the inside of their playground fence for next week only.

P3K pupils will collect the data from your child’s class each day.

We are looking for P4-P7 helpers for Parents’ Afternoon / Evening on Thursday 21 March at the following times:

3.00 pm – 4.00 pm, 4.00 pm – 5.00 pm, 6.00 pm – 7.00 pm and            7.00 pm – 8.30 pm

Pupil Equity Fund

Information about our Pupil Equity Fund will be available at our Parents’ afternoon/evening. 

Pupil Equity Funding is additional funding allocated directly to school and targeted at closing the poverty-related attainment gap.

Parents and carers, children and young people and other key stakeholders will be given the opportunity to be involved in  planning what we use this money for.    We will be asking for Parents and carers opinions over the next few weeks and this is an agenda item at our next Parent Council meeting  which takes place on

Monday 25th March at 7pm.

 

How much money Onthank Primary receives depends on how many children are registered for free school meals. For every child that is registered, the school receives £1,200 in addition to their normal budget.

Assembly 18 March

Today’s assembly was filled with lots of different speakers and visitors.

Mrs Kilpatrick started off by launching our ‘Big Pedal Week’

This was followed by Mrs Bell and P6K delivering our World Day of Prayer Assembly:

Lastly, a team of software engineers from JP Morgan returned to announce the winners of the recent app design competition (see Mr Macleod’s blog post for more details). A huge congratulations to Gemma in P5M on winning the competition. Thank you to Chris and his team of engineers for this exciting opportunity.

Book Fair

Scholastics Book Fair will be here on Parents’ Afternoon / Evening (Thursday 21 March) from 3.00 pm – 8.00 pm.  Please follow instructions below:

  1. Choose a book for your child.
  2. A Book Fayre helper will put child’s name and class on the book then leave in the office.
  3. You then have to pay for the book through ParentPay (taking 99p off the price – World Book Day Token) stating the name of the book in the comments box.
  4. Once paid your child will be given the book home with them.

Red Nose Day – Friday 15 March 2019

We are taking part in Red Nose Day on Friday 15 March.  We are asking pupils to “make your laugh matter” (wear something funny that they can be in all day and do Zumba).

The money we raise will help people living really tough lives in the UK and across Africa.  Just to give you an indication of how the money helps the children in third world countries, £1 will buy one child a year’s supply of school books.  All donations this year to be paid through ParentPay.

Sharing the Online Safety Message

P3W were excited to take ownership of counting and distributing leaflets to all stages today.

All pupils have been given a ‘Digital Parenting’ leaflet to take home. This leaflet contains some very valuable information about keeping up to speed with the latest digital technology and wellbeing issues so that families can get the most out of the online world.

P6 Euro Quiz Heat

This morning our P6 Euro Quiz Team went to Kilmaurs Primary to participate in the Euro Quiz competition.  They competed against other East Ayrshire schools. This year, the winners were Annanhill and the runners up were Nether Robertland.

Our P6 team worked exceptionally hard on the run up to the competition and answered some very challenging questions! Super effort boys, you should be very proud of yourselves!

Onthank’s 60th Birthday Celebrations

Onthank Primary 60th Birthday Concerts Blog Post

Save the date!

To celebrate the school’s 60th Birthday in style, our young people have taken ownership for designing and creating 3 special concerts with performances based on their favourite highlights from across the decades.

Taking responsibility for concept to choreography and costumes, Onthank Primary pupils are excited to entertain our families and warmly invite all members of the community to celebrate 60 wonderful years with us.

Our Birthday Concerts will take place on WEDNESDAY 1 MAY in our school hall and in the following format:

P2 & P3 Concert at 9.30 am

P4 & P5 Concert at 11.15 am

P6 & P7 Concert at 2.00 pm

P1 pupils are making a video which will be shown at each concert therefore we invite P1 families to attend a performance of their choice. Alternatively, the P1 video will also beshown to families at parent’s night.

Each concert will last no longer than 1 hour.

Each pupil will be allocated a maximum of 2 tickets which can be bought through ParentPay, where we will kindly accept a donation of your choice. Donations will range from £1 – £5 per ticket.

Tickets will go on sale on Monday 15 April 2019.

More information will be posted closer to the time however we hope you can save the date and join us for Onthank’s 60th Birthday Party!
