Packed Lunch and Snack Guidance
Onthank Primary School & ASLC
At Onthank Primary School & ASLC, we encourage healthy eating habits that support children’s learning, wellbeing and development.
Free School Meals
All children at Onthank Primary School are entitled to a free school meal. We encourage families to take advantage of this provision, which provides a balanced and nutritious meal each day.
Snacks and Packed Lunches
Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack and packed lunch that will help them stay energised and ready to learn throughout the day.
We ask that snacks and packed lunches support our healthy school ethos and that children bring water to drink during the school day.
Foods and Drinks Not Permitted
To promote health and wellbeing and to ensure a positive learning environment, children should not bring:
- Energy drinks
- Fizzy drinks
- Chewing gum
As we have children with allergies across the school, families are also asked to avoid sending foods containing nuts.
Special Occasions
We recognise that birthdays and celebrations are important. However, we ask families not to send sweets, cakes or party bags for classes. Special occasions will be celebrated in school in ways that are inclusive and enjoyable for all children.
Working Together
Our approach to food and health reflects our CARES values of Community, Ambition, Respect, Equity and Safety. By working together, we can help children develop healthy habits that support their wellbeing, learning and achievement.
Fresh drinking water is available throughout the school day, and children are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle.
