In Onthank Primary we enable children to fulfil their role as responsible citizens now and in the future by developing skills of independence, creativity and teamwork. As part of thinking independently we seek to develop each child’s ability to make informed choices, recognising that their actions contribute towards ensuring that the rights of all are respected.

Onthank has a Rights Respecting Ethos: Class charters are drawn up in consultation between adults and children. They identify the rights that are most relevant to that environment, together with the ways in which adults and children will act in order to do their best to ensure that these rights are respected.
Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors met and brainstormed their ideas to create our Playground Charter. The charter was presented at assembly by our P7 Ambassadors and is displayed around the school.
Article 19: We have the right to protection from unfair words and action.
Article 24: We have the right to a safe environment.
Article 27: We have the right to be listened to and have our views respected.
Article 31: We have the right to play with friends.
Onthank’s RRS Mascot
Paddington Bear is Onthank Primary School Rights Respecting School Mascot. Oliver in P1C designed our mascot. Paddington is all around the school to remind us about our rights in the UNCRC and to remind us to be respectful. As a Rights Respecting School , our philosophy is underpinned by the values and principles of the UNCRC.
UNICEF CHILDREN’S RIGHTS : UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation for children and their rights. In 1989, Governments across the world promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The basic needs that should be met so children and young people grow up to reach their full potential are enshrined in the UNCRC. The rights are international law.

RRS – Global Goals
In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for a better world by 2030. These goals have the power to end poverty, fight inequality and address the urgency of climate change.
As we are now in 2020 there are only 10 years to achieve these goals for sustainable development.
Everyone can contribute to making sure the Global Goals are met.
As a Rights Respecting School we will be familiarising ourselves again with these goals and be considering how we can help to make a real difference.
