Our Onthank memorabilia is on display and our stage is set as we prepare for our 60th Birthday Party tomorrow!

To celebrate the school’s 60th Birthday in style, our young people have taken ownership for designing and creating 3 special concerts with performances based on their favourite highlights from across the decades.

Our Birthday Concerts will take place tomorrow, WEDNESDAY 1 MAY, in our school hall and in the following format:

P2 & P3 Concert at 9.30 am

P4 & P5 Concert at 11.15 am

P6 & P7 Concert at 2.00 pm

P1 pupils are making a video which will be shown at each concert therefore we invite P1 families to attend a performance of their choice.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

P6 pupils are taking part in Experimental Learning – Danger Detectives at Take A Bow Opportunity Centre, New Farm Loch, Kilmarnock.  P6K and P6M are going on Monday 13 May and P6A are going on Tuesday 21 May.  The bus will leave the school prompt at 9.00 am and will return by lunchtime.  Suitable outdoor clothing should be worn.  Each class will need 3 parent helpers so if you are able to help out  please complete form below.

Firstly we would like to congratulate all students who took part in Dance Fest 2019 for a fantastic performance and for positively representing our school and community.

You will find a copy of the Dance Fest 2019 DVD Order Form by clicking this link. These should be sent to the address provided on the form.

Following the excellent feedback from event organisers regarding our students, their attitude and talent, we would like the Dance Fest team to form our ‘Onthank Ambassadors’. 

Onthank Ambassadors will continue to work alongside Mr Swan in developing their dance, performing art and leadership skills to represent the school in the final term.

The first opportunity will be performing at each 60th Birthday Concert so please be advised pupils will need their costume on Wednesday 1st May.

With this in mind ‘Onthank Ambassadors’ will continue with their Friday after school club 3pm – 4pm and will continue to June.

Mr Swan looks forward to seeing you all on Friday 3rd May 2019.

Tickets for our 60th Birthday Celebrations on Wednesday 1 May are now available to purchase through ParentPay.  We are asking for donations for “Memories are Better than Dreams ……..” in memory of Lara who sadly passed away in September last year.

“Memories are Better than Dreams ……………………” – based in Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock.

Lara loved Onthank Primary and all her friends she made here.  She loved to smile, laugh, dance and help people.  She had so many lovely, happy memories of school and we are so thankful for this and all the support we have had from her friends and staff at the school.   Lara, her Dad and I found so much comfort and support from this very special local charity and it would be lovely if we could continue to support them.  It’s the little things that make such a difference and always to remember the happiness in the saddest of times ……….

Memories are Better than Dreams aims to help families make special memories with their children towards the end of their life and following their death.

Having a child with a long term condition is very stressful for families and places considerable financial strain on them with parents often having to give up work to care for their child.  This can make it very difficult for the family to provide the opportunities to make lasting memories of their child.

They provide memory making activities, headstones for the child, special memory boxes, remembrance items such as necklaces of handprints but the help they give is individual to each family and tailored to fulfil their wishes.

We are having a Birthday party on Friday 3 May in the dining hall.  All P1-P3 pupils receive free school meals so no cost.  P4-P7s cost £2.10 (pay through ParentPay) except for children in receipt of free school meals.

Primary 3

Wednesday 1st May

It’s almost show time. Don’t forget to order tickets through Parent Pay and tickets will then be delivered to your child.
Can you please send your child to school on Monday with their show costume in a carrier bag. Please label everything!

On Thursday 2nd May Primary 3 are planning to visit the Dean Park to hide special stones they are designing this week. Keep your eyes peeled next time you visit!

Please provide your child with a snack and drink to take to the park. We will return to school for lunch as normal. Children should wear suitable clothing for the Scottish weather!

If there is anyone willing to help us out on the trip please contact the school office.

Homework will continue as normal next week. This week continue to revise all sounds taught so far and remember to log into Bug Club.

In term 4 we will be covering 2 mini topics, the first being ‘Here come the Vikings’ where children will be designing their very own tunic. If possible please send in a white/cream pillowcase for this activity by Friday 3rd May.

Pupils should wear a tracksuit, bring a packed lunch and water.  Faye Meikle (Active Schools Coordinator) will accompany the pupils to the event at Kilmarnock College. The bus will leave at 10.30am and return to school around 1.45pm .

P5E had a run through of the show with their fellow P5 classes today and following this rehearsal we discussed costume ideas.  As I posted before most pupils are playing children and therefore these pupils can wear casual clothes.  Our scientists are going to wear a white polo shirt with dark trousers and the head scientist a red polo shirt.

There is a post on the Onthank P5 page that shows some clothing trends from the 2000s decade so if you are able to achieve any of these looks then that would be great but not essential.

There will be a dress rehearsal on Tuesday 30th April so pupils are to bring in their costumes for this day (in a bag and labelled).  The costumes can then be left in the classroom ready for Wednesday (show day!).

In the meantime if your child has any lines please ensure they practise them to the point where they can say them without needing a script, unless they are a narrator.

P5E and Miss Ellis

As parents/carers of P5E will know the class are performing short sketches relating to the changes in technology during the 2000s.  In terms of costumes most pupils are playing children and therefore do not need anything special.  However, I have posted some pictures of so called noughties clothing ‘trends’ on our Onthank P5 blog, please have a look and if you are able to provide these clothes or something similar that would be great.  Anything you send in should be labelled with your child’s name and class.
