Primary 7 – Swimming

Primary 7 start their 6 week swimming block this Friday (10th January) at the Galleon Centre. Pupils are required to bring the following:

  • Swimming bag
  • Swim suit
  • Towel
  • £1 coin for locker (returnable)

The final will take place on Friday 29th November at Ayrshire College (11.30am-1.30pm). Sports Development Modern Apprentice Blair Gormam will be coaching the pupils on the day. Pupils will be transported to the venue by bus.

The heat will take place on Thursday 21st November at James Hamilton Academy (3.30-4.30pm). HNC student Ethan Donaghy will be coaching the pupils on the day. We require parents to provide transport to and from the venue. The pupils should arrive back at school at 4.45pm to walk home or be collected.

Kilmarnock Football Club – Family Ticket


Kilmarnock Football Club has kindly offered our school a family ticket (two adults and two children) for the home games this season. If you would like the opportunity to attend a game as a family please complete the form below. The school will rotate the ticket or randomly select during assembly if we are oversubscribed.

P6/7 Boxing @ Northwest Boxing Club

Scottish Internationalist Kieran McMaster is running an after school club at Northwest Boxing Club from Tuesday 29th October – Tuesday 19th November (3-4pm). Mr Simpson will walk the pupils over at 3pm and should be collected or walk home from the boxing club at 4pm. Please complete the consent form below if your child would like to attend.

Meet the Sport Committee

We will be working hard throughout the year to promote sport in our school through P.E. lessons, stage competitions, festivals, community sport, breakfast, lunch and after school clubs. Our first task this year is to design an Onthank Sport Committee logo.

 

Active Girls Day 2019

The girls had a fantastic day participating in sport. We skip started the day with Skip Fit Friday. P1-4 showcased their dance moves at Zumba with Mr Swan. P7S girls delivered Extreme Dodgeball to P5 and football to  P6. P7 girls completed the day displaying their boxing skills and competing against each other at skipping champion. A big thank you to all the parents and carers for their support on the day.

Active Girls Day 2019

On Friday 4th October 2019, we’ll be celebrating the amazing work going into girls’ sport and the progress around girls’ participation. To celebrate we have organised a timetable of physical activity in the school.

P7S girls will lead the activities alongside Mr Simpson and Mr Swan. All girls are encouraged to wear active wear on Friday. Parents/carers are more than welcome to come along and participate on the day.

 

P3/4:  Zumba  (Mr Swan) 11.00 – 11.30am

P1/2: Zumba (Mr Swan) 11.30 -12.00 midday

P5: Extreme Dodgeball (Mr Simpson) 1.20 – 1.50pm

P6: Football (Mr Simpson) 1.50 – 2.20pm

P7:  Boxing (Mr Simpson) 2.20 – 2.50pm

 

 

P7 Inverclyde Residential – Information Evening

There will be an information evening in school on Tuesday 8 October at 6.00 pm. Parents and pupils are both welcome to attend.  Gareth Turner from Inverclyde will deliver a presentation on the visit and will answer any questions you may have.

 

Football After School Club – P6/7 Girls

Football coaching for P6/7 Girls will begin on Tuesday 1st October – Tuesday 3rd December (3-4pm). The sessions will take place both  indoor and outdoor so please bring suitable clothing.

Active Schools – Cross Country Championships

Our P6/7 team competed against the top cross country runners in East Ayrshire primary schools. We had some fantastic results at the event that was held at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena in conjunction with Kilmarnock Harriers.

Sportscotland School Sport Award

Onthank has been awarded the sportscotland Silver School Sport Award for 2019-2020.

 

The Silver Award highlights that our school has shown improvement across the core areas of the Award and demonstrated an on-going commitment to increase young people’s opportunities and engagement in physical education, school sport and leadership and provide clear pathways to life-long participation in sport.

Skip Fit Friday Returns

Aldi’s Kit for Schools

How it works… Get involved!
Every time you spend over £30 in any Aldi store you’ll receive a Team GB sticker. Take your stickers to school to help complete your poster. Once complete with 300 stickers send the poster back to us to receive an exclusive sports kit and to be in with a chance to win £20,000 for your school.

P5 Golf

Golf Pro Bill Lockie will be running a one off after school club to promote the October Golf Programme taking place at Caprington Golf Club and Loudoun Gowf Club.
Bill will bring along letters/ consents for October on the day.

P7 Millport Trip

P7 Millport Trip

The buses will leave at 8.45am tomorrow and return for 3pm. Pupils should wear suitable clothing and have been advised to bring a towel if they plan to go on the beach area. There is a £15 spending money limit and pupils should not bring mobile phones or any other electrical devices with them. Pupils are welcome to bring disposable cameras if they wish. Fingers crossed for the weather.

P7 Fun Day 2019

Onthank’s annual Fun Day will take place today. The cost of stalls range from 10p-50p. All pupils should wear school uniform as normal. All parents and carers are invited to join their child at their allocated time. Tea/coffee and home baking will be on offer. The timetable for the day is as follows:

P7 Fun Day 2019

Onthank’s annual Fun Day will take place on Wednesday 12th June. P7 will be organising stalls and activities for the whole school to enjoy. The cost of stalls range from 10p-50p. We are asking for any donations (no glass) that can be given out as prizes at our tombola stall. All pupils should wear school uniform as normal. All parents and carers are invited to join their child on the day. The timetable for the day is as follows:

Positive Choices Week – p7s punching their way into thursday

Kieran McMaster from Northwest Boxing Club visited the school today as part of Positive Choices Week. Many pupils were surprised by how much they enjoyed taking part in the noble art. The club has a fantastic facility and is on the doorstep of our school.

Northwest Beginners’ Class:

Wednesday: 5-5.50pm

P7B/M & P7M Dean castle visit

P7B/M (am) & P7M (pm) will visit the Dean Castle tomorrow (Thursday 23 May). The pupils will get a rare glimpse inside the castle before it opens again to the public in 2021 and see the progress being made with the restoration process. Both classes will have their lunch at school as normal. Pupils should wear school uniform and sturdy shoes (trainers are acceptable).
