P7B and P7S decide to make the most of the good weather and take their Numeracy lesson outside. Children split the playground into four sections and worked in groups using playground chalk to showcase their Number Talks strategies they have been learning for each of the four basic operations.
P5 visited the Glasgow Science Centre. They got to try out lots of different science experiments, went to the cinema to watch ‘Into the Arctic’ and of course visited the shop!

P3 had a fantastic trip to Ayr Farm Park today. The sun was shining and the children got to see lots of animals and play on all of the different apparatus. Thank you to all of our parent helpers who also came along!
Race for Life will take place this Friday 1st June (weather permitting).
Our Race for Life is a pupil event this year, however, if you wish to accompany your child please come to the school reception where you will be shown to the starting line within the school playground.
The starting time for each race is detailed below. Each stage will run for approximately 10-20 minutes.
Pupils from the Eco Committee were invited to join the representatives from the community along with Provost Jim Todd and Councillor McKay to plant the boxes at the bus terminus. Thank you to everyone for allowing us to be involved. We look forward to seeing the flowers bloom.???
Pupils from P6 and P7 have been practising their cycling skills and road sense in preparation for their Cycling Test this week. Thank you to Karen Paterson for her time preparing everyone. Good luck??♀️??♂️
We were very lucky with the weather this year for our sports days. Everyone took part in the event and we had fun. We raced to win points for our team. Well done to all the competitors???!
The Parent Council and school would like to write a joint letter to you about the incident reported in the Kilmarnock Standard this week which happened in April last term.
Parent Council
The Parent Council has reviewed the incident with EAC and agree with the conclusions that the school acted promptly to locate and retrieve the children concerned. We know and are concerned that this can happen in any school. However, we are confident that we will all learn from this unfortunate incident to ensure that we limit the possibility of a re occurrence happening again.
School
As a school we have worked with both families to reassure them of how seriously we viewed the matter and feel it is important to protect the anonymity of the children. As the incident has been reported in the press it is important that you know the relevant information has been given to parents concerned. At our last Parent Council meeting we reported this Health and Safety incident occurring during a lunchtime and described the actions that have been taken by the local authority and school working together. We have consulted with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Health and Safety team. Already there have been improvements to gates and a new gate has been purchased. As you are probably aware staff have been monitoring the gates until the new one is fitted. As a school we have ensured our pupil Health and Safety team have been working with adults and the steps they have introduced include safety circles and safety lines. Staff speak to the children regularly about the importance of staying within the school grounds for their own safety and about road safety near to the school.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Parent Council and the wider school community for their support and for the work you all do at home to reinforce this important message. The school and Parent Council continue to work in partnership and have a meeting planned for next week.
If you have any concerns we can discuss them at our weekly Wednesday morning drop in. I would also like to invite all of our parents and carers to attend a safety talk at the school on Wednesday 30th May. We had already scheduled an Online Safety Workshop from 3.15pm to 4.15pm and I can answer any questions you may have about security within the school and our playgrounds at this event.
Well done to Callum Walton who received our Depute Head Teacher’s Award this week. He was a responsible individual who supported his mum during an emergency situation at home. Well done!

We took a short break from our Royal Wedding celebrations on Friday to visit Crossgates Care Home. The staff are working hard in preparation for the care home reopening its doors, so we thought we’d take them some wedding cake to have during a well deserved break!
We had a lovely time eating wedding cake and sitting with our buddies on the grass for a Picnic in the Park. We also had a special Royal Wedding Menu at lunchtime. We all enjoyed our day.??
All staff and pupils dressed up in their wedding finery to celebrate Harry and Meghan’s wedding. Everyone looks fabulous in their lovely outfits. We celebrated by having wedding cake and aqua juice.
The P7 Football team competed in the South and West area finals today; winning 5 games and drawing 1. This meant they won the tournament and now progress to the National Finals where there are only 8 teams left from the whole of Scotland.
The P5/6 team were also competing in this tournament and were unlucky in the games that they played in not to get more from them.
Our P1s and their P7 buddies were set the challenge today of designing a suit and wedding dress for Prince Harry and Meghan to wear to the Royal Wedding. Pupils experimented with our new iPads to create the designs. Which one would you like to wear?

Primary 3 had a very special visitor today – a Viking!
He told us all about Viking life and about being a Beserker! Some children were allowed to try out his shield and weapons. Mrs Easter even tried to attack him with his own sword. It was really fascinating and brought our Viking topic to life.
As part of National Digital Week, Primary 7 visited Kilmarnock College to take part in a ‘Coding lecture’. Children enjoyed finding out about Coding and by the end of it were Coding Champions.
These Primary 7 classes will now return to school and teach other classes and stages to become Coding experts as part of our aim in becoming a Digital School.
Tonight Onthank are having a digital bingo night. Lots of people have turned up and lots of bingo numbers are being shouted. This year we are randomly picking digital numbers are part of digital week. Mrs Wright is calling the numbers, Mrs Findlay is the checker and the PTA have organised the event, helping sell the raffle tickets. Eyes down!
