Today our DFS ambassadors (P4K) have been busy organising the launch of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge.
It is believed that reading has the power to change lives and that developing a love of reading in childhood can have a huge impact on educational attainment and future wellbeing.
The First Minister’s Reading Challenge is open to every pupil in P1-P7 in Scotland. We know that reading journeys can be personal to every single child but, to encourage and motivate schools and pupils to get involved, a number of challenges have been set that we hope will inspire and develop a love of reading.

Our P6/7 choir sang their hearts out at Morrisons this morning. The singing was beautiful and made everyone feel very Christmassy. Our P4’s also did a super job collecting donations for Hansel Village. Well done everyone!
P4K celebrated harvest by learning about wheat weavings and corn dollies.
Congratulations to all at Onthank Primary School for achieving Dyslexia Friendly Schools Silver Status following our recent accreditation visit.
A group of P6 pupils along with Mrs Klein and Mrs Bell attended the award ceremony on Wednesday at Dumfries House, Cumnock to collect the award.
Campbell, Emily, Evie, Euan, Gregor and Rhiannon delivered a confident presentation highlighting the good work being carried out throughout the school to include and support all learners.
They were delighted to accept the award on behalf of everyone at the school.

As part of Positive Choices Week, P6K enjoyed a session from Kilmarnock Football Club. The focus was on Kilmarnock Community Sports Trust and the importance of being active.
P6K and P6M had a very informative morning at Danger Detectives. Lots of different safety activities to get us all thinking about keeping safe.
Congratulations and well done to P6 pupils Emily Tosh, Stuart Anderson, Thomas Urqhart and P7 pupils Alix Hartley and Abbie Stevenson who recently took part in the Ayrshire Music Festival, Double Bass Solo Class.
A special well done goes to Stuart and Alix who both won their class.

Hello,
We are the DFS pupil group for Onthank Primary School. We organise events like the DFS workshop and whole school assembly. We invited all pupils and parents/carers to come to the DFS workshop. There were lots of fun activities for everyone to do.
We have already achieved our Bronze Award and are currently working towards our Silver accreditation.
Our DFS school mascot is Dom the DFS Diamond. Keep an eye out for him around the school!
Four of our good friends have made a movie called DFS A Wider World using IMovie trailer. You will be able to check it out at a later date by scanning a QR code.

As a continuation of a whole school initiative of raising attainment, it has been decided that maths setting in P6 will cease as of Friday 11th January 2019. Following this date maths will be taught by the class teacher taking differentiation into account to meet all learners’ needs. Thank you.

We’re holding a competition to encourage people to be safely seen in the dark during the winter months. You have to draw yourself in the coolest, brightest clothes you can think of! Please include your own ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ message too! The closing date is the 7th of December which is this Friday!

Recently during Dyslexia Awareness Week all classes enjoyed a range of inclusive learning activities including an assembly and workshop led by P6K.

P6K are delivering a DFS assembly to parents on Tuesday 6th November at 9:15 am. Then on Wednesday 7th November P6K will be organising a whole school workshop which parents are also invited to attend with their child’s class.

P6K had a fabulous time at Pierburg, Dumfries House.
We spent the day learning about plants and vegetables with Michelle and Trudy. We were lucky enough to harvest our own vegetables from the garden, make some delicious soup and plant some Chard.
Today as part of our Dyslexia Friendly Schools journey, the whole school was involved in NO PENS DAY WEDNESDAY. This is a national speaking and listening event which encourages exciting classroom discussion. Check out the blog for class photos.
P6K have been finding out a little bit more about each other. The pupils presented a solo talk all about themselves and brought in an interesting item from home to show the class. 
P6K endured the heat of the last day of school to harvest their potatoes. Mucky hands and smiley faces all round.
Well done to Adam Thomson (P6K) for all his achievements in swimming. Adam brought a few of his medals and trophies in to school today to show his class!
Congratulations to our P6 pupils and teachers who received their John Muir Award today. It was a super busy afternoon with parents and guests invited to see all the hard work which has been done over the last year. Well done everyone!
P6K enjoyed their recent trip to Amazonia at M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park. The handling session was a definite favourite for most of the children.
