The MacCabbra Operahouse performance

The children in P3-4-5-6&7 worked alongside the professional singers from Scottish Opera to and entertained a packed hall of mums, dads, grannies and friends with their performance. The children from Appin Primary joined us for the event and it was a good way for our P7s to make friends with children that they will be going to high school with in August.

Swaping coding tips with children at Barcaldine

The children at Barcaldine showed us how to use Microbits. We showed them how to use SCRATCH in return.  This was a fun way to make friends with children we will meet in Oban High School next year and to share our coding skills.

P5 STEM day at SAMS

P5 enjoyed a brilliant day out at SAMS thanks to Iain Fulton and the STEM team from Argyll & Bute and to Helen McNeil from SAMS for facilitating the event in a real scientific setting.

Activities included designing a ‘grab machine’ to find treasure buried under the sea and in the sea bed (super large containers); creating a short action scene in front of a green screen to make a video ‘swimming under the sea’; building Lego with moving parts and programming the devices to move to your commands; enjoying a video and discussion with a real scientist who had visited the Arctic and trying on her stuff; finally we made boats out of various random materials and the boat that held the most pennies won a visit from Mr Fulton, it was quite a tense count as you will see from the photos but Taynuilt won and we are negotiating a date for his visit to develop our STEM learning.

It was also nice to be assisted by some pupils from Oban High School including two of our former pupils Mitchell and Hayden.

Sampling

P5/4 have been working with Kilchrenan primary school over this last term, and today spent the day at Kilchrenan working with them to learn sampling techniques in the Kilchrenan grounds looking at biodiversity.
In the afternoon they had an absolutely fantastic American football taster session with coach William Humphries, learning how to throw an American football and how to run ‘routes’. A huge thank you to William, and to Allan Wright and Gillian Walker for making this happen.

P5/4 perform Shakespear’s 12th Night

P5/4 have been working on playscripts this term, looking at the play ‘Twelfth Night’ by Shakespeare. To show what they have learned about performance, interpreting characters and stage directions, they put their hard work on display during a visit to Kilchrenan today and brought the house down 👏
