Parental Policy

Parental/Guardian involvement Policy

Staff Involvement
This Policy was drawn up in consultation with the Head Teacher of Taynuilt primary School and the staff of Taynuilt Pre 5 Unit.

Aims

Parents/guardians are the first educators of their young children and at this establishment we understand, respect and value the contribution they make towards their child’s learning and development. Therefore we make it our aim to provide support, guidance, reassurance and encouragement to all parents and carers and make them feel involved in the child’s learning.
We will work closely with all parents as a team to ensure their child gets the best start in life, understanding the need for regular, meaningful and positive communications between preschool staff and parents.

Procedures

This establishment operates an ‘open door’ policy which provides a friendly, safe, positive and welcoming environment for children and their families and parents are made aware that they can discuss any issues or concerns with a member of staff at all times. All staff will treat parents and families in a friendly and respectful manner regardless of their physical appearance, religions or ethnic backgrounds.

We also operate by:

  • Providing parents with information and consent forms before their child starts nursery
  • A preschool visit/open day is arranged for children and parents to come and visit the preschool to meet their key worker and join in with activities to help their child settle in
  • Parents are made aware of the systems and policies operating at the nursery and the policy folder is on display and available for the parents to look through
  • There are always parental leaflets and handbooks available with contacts for other support agencies available.
  • We regularly inform parents about their child’s development, both informally on a day-to-day basis and formally during parental meetings and in written reports.
  • Providing guidance, advice and resources to support home learning such as story sacks. There is also a weekly information sheet displayed on the window which includes parental involvement and invites into the preschool to join in with activities, home links where we suggest certain activities to do at home, ask them to bring in an object to preschool or discussions they can have with their child. We also invite parents to accompany us on any outings
  • Parents are also encouraged to attend nursery events and open mornings and all family members are welcome
  • Provide opportunities for parental support and contribution from their own skills, knowledge and interests.
  • Ensuring that their child’s folders, learning journeys and information are always available to access
  • There are information screens on show displaying pictures and information about the children’s play and learning
  • Acknowledge and record any information from parents about their child that may affect any aspects of child development
  • Making known to the parents the system for queries, complaints or suggestions
  • Informing and involving parents in the transition of process to Primary School
  • Family members involved have an appropriate PVG

Monitoring and Review
It is the responsibility of the Head Teacher along with the Pre 5 staff to monitor, evaluate and review the above arrangements and effectiveness of this policy and adjust them according to need.
