Displays Policy

Staff involvement
This policy was drawn up in the consultation with the Head Teacher of Taynuilt Primary School and the staff of Taynuilt Pre 5 Unit.

Aims
All staff highly value all the children’s achievement and effort and there for want to:

  • Ensure that the children’s work display’s promotes self-esteem and confidence and a sense of achievement and ownership
  • Ensure that all display’s reflect the aims and ethos of this establishment
  • Aim to make the premises attractive and simulating

We will ensure we meet these aims by:

  • Children are actively involved in displaying and presenting their work and are asked how they would like to display their work and where to display it
  • Praising all the children’s work and efforts, remembering that each child’s work may be different and unique and mean something to them
  • Displays of the children’s work acknowledge the children’s achievements and encourages a sense of pride
  • All displays are attractive, carefully mounted and changed often
  • There are interest tables or areas with themes for children to handle
  • There are displays and pictures that reflect the cultural diversity of the community
  • Displays are clearly noticeable to parents and visitors
  • Parents and visitors are encouraged to look at displays
  • There are times where parents are invited to assist with making the wall displays
  • Signs and notices are written in community languages where appropriate
  • Notice boards or information screens are attractively presented and regularly updated
  • Use of labelling or text (Particularly at children’s eye level) should be appropriate to the age and ability of the children
  • The children’s own words should be used
  • A range of display material is available for the children to choose
  • At the main entrance there are two display areas, one displaying the personal learning plans (what the children would like to learn/find out) and the children’s learning journeys. The other screen demonstrates our ethos about putting the child/children at the centre of everything we do, including pictures of the children’s experiences and headings referring to curriculum for excellence, GIRFEC and SHANARRI. There are statements explaining what we have recently been doing, along with the children’s own words. Floor books,  photo albums and the policy folder are also available at this area and are easily accessible to the parents
  • There are times where we show the parents slide shows or video clips from the laptop
  • Information window outside the is changed accordingly

Resources include:

  • Wide range of paper, card, foil, tissue paper and fabrics of all different colours and sizes
  • Coloured/patterned boarders
  • Craft selection trolley – Paint, stampers, chalk, crayons, pens, pencils, craft materials like pom poms and sequence, glitter, sponges and rollers
  • Craft cupboard – Different types and colours of paint, glitter, sequence, craft materials, fabrics and wool.
  • Digital camera
  • Laptop
  • Books and posters
  • Props bought in by the children and parents

Monitoring and Review
It is the responsibility of the Head Teacher along with the Pre 5 staff to monitor, evaluate and review the above arrangements and effectiveness of this policy and adjust them according to need.
