ICT Policy

ICT Policy

Rationale
ICT influences all our lives, so many everyday items are controlled to some extent by technology in some way or other.
ICT plays a part in children’s daily lives and is growing all the time. More and more toys also have elements of ICT so the earlier they are introduced to the concept the more comfortable they will be using it.

Aims

  • To create an environment in where staff and children are comfortable and confident with ICT and its uses.
  • To ensure staff are aware of the software available and its best uses.
  • Always have ICT resources available on a daily basis for the children to use and explore
  • Staff become comfortable in using ICT themselves for record keeping
  • Children will engage positively in imaginative, active learning

Staff will look for ways in which ICT can be incorporated into all areas of the curriculum.
A time for individual children to play on the computer will be allocated to ten minutes.
At this stage, the children will use software appropriate to their age, needs and abilities. Software such as computer programmes and activate maths are available to challenge and extend the children’s learning.

  • Through using ICT in everyday learning, the children will become familiar and learn the following:
  • Click and drag using the mouse/tracking pad.
  • Start up and shut down the computer.
  • Print by clicking on the print button.
  • Open and close applications.
  • Understand the concept of saving/retrieving work.
  • Upload a photograph from the digital camera.
  • They will also learn parts of a computer such as a mouse, screen, buttons, charger and keyboard.
  • Use the digital camera to take photographs.
  • Start and stop CD players.
  • Use technology in role play situations e.g. phone, cash till, washing machine, voice recorders, microphones.
  • Use programmable toys such as Bee-bots and cars and is using appropriate language.
