Staff Development Policy

Staff Development Policy

Staff involvement
This policy was drawn up in the consultation with the Head Teacher of Taynuilt Primary School and the staff of Taynuilt Pre 5 Unit.

Rationale
The continued professional development of staff is an integral part of the whole of the Pre 5 provision within this establishment.  Staff developing needs are regularly reviewed and the staff needs are met.

Purpose
This staff development policy was designed to inform both parents and staff that the professional developmental needs of staff at Taynuilt Pre 5 Unit are managed to ensure care, learning and teaching of the highest quality within the establishment.

Aims
Our staff development aims are:

  • To ensure current developments in Early Level and Childcare are embraced.
  • To empower staff to deliver a high quality programme of learning opportunities.
  • To support staff in their professional duties.
  • To ensure that staff have gained accredited qualifications to the level required by the Care Inspectorate and registration with the Scottish Social Services council.

Procedures
Staff development is managed in the following ways:

  • The Head Teacher will operate an ‘open door’ policy for staff who may wish at any time to informally discuss their staff development needs.
  • The Head Teacher will listen and discuss individual needs sensitively.
  • Staff development needs are assessed and discussed formally on an annual basis through personal development reviews.
  • Staff will be given equal opportunity to attend relevant staff development training courses.
  • Following production of the annual development plan, career review and development reports, the Head Teacher will attempt to address staff development needs by incorporating the input of the Quality Improvement Officer (Early Years)
  • Staff certificates are recorded.

Monitoring and Review
It is the responsibility of the Head Teacher along with the Pre 5 staff to monitor, evaluate and review the above arrangements and effectiveness of this policy and adjust them according to need.
