Fire Drill Procedure and Evacuation of children Policy

Fire procedures at Taynuilt Pre 5 Unit and Hall above

On the sounding of the fire alarm:

  • Village hall staff will set off the fire alarm if it is a fire drill and Pre 5 staff are aware when the fire alarm will be set off
  • When the fire bell sounds the children and staff will leave the building through the fire exit at the front door. Closing it behind them (There is also a second fire escape door at the side of the building which has wheelchair acces and both exits should be practised)
    Children will be wearing shoes and no one will stop to collect any personal belongings.
  • The children Walk quietly, single fire out of the door and down the car park and assemble at the fire assembly area at the bottom of the car park.
  • Staff will take check that every child is out of the building and a head count will be taken at the assembly point.
  • Staff and children will remain in the line until told to return to the building by the Childcare and Education Worker
  • Staff will complete Fire Drill Record Sheet

In the event of the alarm sounding and it is not a drill, follow exactly the same procedures
Discovering a fire
Any person discovering a fire in the Pre 5 Building should notify a member of staff and they should raise the alarm.
Do not attempt to put out the fire and follow the exact same procedures as above.

Assembly Procedures
Staff will ensure that every child knows where the fire exits and assembly point is.

Monitoring and Review
It is the responsibility of the Head Teacher along with the Pre 5 staff to monitor, evaluate and review the above arrangements and effectiveness of this policy and  adjust them according to need.
