The Cottage Kindergarten wins three prizes in prestigious Art Competition!!
All of the pupils at The Cottage Kindergarten in Helensburgh entered a piece of artwork in the nursery category of the Tesco Bank/National Gallery of Scotland Art Competition during the summer term. The title of the entries for this age group was ‘Shoes.’

Dunoon Primary win UK Kodu Kup 2015!!
Hands up – which Scottish primary school took on 300 schools from all over the UK and won hands down?
Dunoon Primary School, who fought off the cream of game designers from Scotland, England and Wales to bring home the Kodu Kup, Microsoft UK’s computer programming competition- bringing the prize to Scotland for the first time.
Dunoon Primary wins prizes at Strathclyde University
Pupils from Dunoon Primary School were invited to the reallysmallscience on tour celebration event, at the University of Strathclyde, on the 17th of June. Primary 7 pupils, Siobhan Simpson and Leagha Campbell lifted the trophy for the best 3D entry for the ‘science in everyday life’ image competition. P7 pupil, Lucia Westwood-Phillips also received a medal for her drawing entry to the competition.

John Logie Baird Touch Ruby Winners
Primary 4 children across Helensburgh and Lomond have been taking part in a Touch Rugby training programme through Active Schools this term. All schools entered a competition within this programme to link the number of passes they could do without dropping the ball.
John Logie Baird Primary are delighted to have won this competetion with 25 passes. Here they are being presented with the winner’s cup by Adam from Active Schools.
Success lands at John Logie Baird Primary School and Pre 5 Unit once again.
Following a recent intense assessment from Paula Love, an Eco Schools assessor John Logie Baird successfully secured our Green Flag. Our amazing Mrs McArthur, Primary 6 class teacher and our Eco group worked tirelessly to showcase all that John Logie Baird was doing to recycle, reuse, manage waste and pick up litter. Paula commented on what a warm welcome she received and paid tribute to our whole school’s inclusive approach…. And what’s more, our nine newly erected raised beds will help us to gain our next green flag in the near future.
Kodu Kup Scottish winners from Dunoon make it to UK final!
Open to all Scottish school children ages seven to fourteen the Kodu Kup competition saw pupils from ten schools across the country take on the challenge of coding and creating a game. Impressing the judges with their game creation and entrepreneurial skills the ‘Rural Racers’ from Dunoon Primary School were crowned Scottish Kodukup champions. The champions now have been invited to present their game to a team of expert judges at the UK Finals in Reading on the 13 July with the chance of taking home the UK Kodu Kup! Furnace pupil wins a national art competition!
Everyone at Furnace are delighted that our P7 pupil, Abbie Wallace, took the top prize in the nationwide TECHBOT Competition, after her artwork was selected from more than 4,000 entries. Abbie has won for her school a brand new ClassBuddy(tm) ‘Charge and Sync’ trolley from LapSafe® Products, with her artwork displayed as a graphic on the doors. Abbie has also won us 5 brand-new iPad Air’s complete with cases and an iPad and case for herself to take home. The iPad cases also display the winning artwork.

Park Primary Crowned MacKay Cup Winners!
‘On Monday 15th June, Park Primary Shinty Team travelled to Inveraray to meet Kyles in the semi finals of shinty’s most prestigious competition – The MacKay Cup. Park won 2-0 putting them through to the final which took place on Saturday…

Scottish Champions Kodu Kup 2015 Dunoon Primary Rural Racers
Pro Gamers have scooped the title of Scottish Champions at todays Kodu Kup Competition at West College Paisley run by Microsoft. The team challenged 100 other entries from schools from all over Scotland. They made it to the final against 9 other schools, to win this prestigious award. They had to set up a business, and prepare a business plan, marketing and advertising their products. They had t-shirts, mugs and badges made. Ardrishaig Primary are Millennium Cup Champions!
Ardrishaig Primary School Football Club travelled all the way to Campbeltown to compete in the Millennium Cup this week and they were delighted to come home as champions. The team included children from P4-7, captained by Robbie in P7. They remained unbeaten throughout the night with 4 wins and 1 draw. Each player received a medal and the school will hold onto the cup for this year.

DGS Grangemouth Success
On the 3rd of June 2015 some pupils from Dunoon Grammar School took part in Scottish Disability Sports National Junior Athletics tournament in Grangemouth. Competitors from all over the country gather to race against each other. This is the fifth time that DGS pupils have participated.
Each competitor had three events which included 60m, 100m, shot putt, standing long jump and running long jump. The day was bright, windy and cold and perfect for competing. Continue reading DGS Grangemouth Success
WELL DONE ROSNEATH!!!
Rosneath Primary School are ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED to share their latest success with everybody. Today, Monday 15th June, will stick in our minds for a long time to come because today is the day we earned our very first Eco Green Flag.
Children and adults alike were soooooooooooooooo excited when Paula Love (Assessor) came to school at 10.30. Two hours later, we were all celebrating!
We are hoping to receive our Flag before the end of Term so photos will follow!
Cardross Primary 7 in the Spotlight!
On Thursday the 4th of June we had our Oscar Night at the Roslea Hall Hotel in Rhu. This was to celebrate the success of our Homunculi Movies which we made in our class with the help of our teacher Miss Travers. We worked with the psychologists Dr Greig and Amy to find out more about what to do if you are worried about something. Homunculi are tiny people inside your head who help you to function, solve problems and help you with your worries.
The Sunshine Room Reunion
The Sunshine Room Nurture Group at Parklands School held a special reunion for all the pupils past and present to celebrate receiving The Marjorie Boxall Quality Mark Award from the Nurture Group Network. The reunion allowed Adele and Fiona, the nurture group staff to find out how the pupils have been getting on since completing their time at Parklands. There was also time for fun and games and also a special healthy picnic.
St. Joseph’s STEM Engineers!
Engineering was big on the agenda at St. Joseph’s this year with Mrs McLean leading developments in Technologies throughout the school. The children loved the creative aspect of engineering and were enthralled by the visits of many parents who are engineers giving presentations to the children about their jobs. Mrs McLean then took on the challenge of affording every pupil in the school the opportunity to apply for the STEM leadership award.

There were celebrations today as Parklands School were presented with the prestigious ‘ The award is in recognition of good practice within nurture classes, awarded by the Nurture Group Network. Parklands School is the first school in Argyll and Bute to receive this accolade and joins only another 100 schools in the UK to be accredited with the award.
Garelochhead PS, proud winners of the Golf Trophy!
Last term, one of the Golf professionals from Helensburgh Golf Club, Matt Burt, gave golf lessons to P6/5 children at Garelochhead Primary School. This course was part of the Active Schools initiative using amenities in the area to get children more involved in sport. On Good Friday, five of the children who took part in the lessons went to Helensburgh Golf Club to participate in a fun golf competition against some other local schools. They had to show off the skills they had learned by scoring points while putting, chipping and hitting golf balls at targets.

Park Primary 7s Scoop Enterprise Award
Last term, as part of a whole-school enterprise overarching theme, Primary 7s at Park decided to enter the Blythswood Challenge, for the second year running. This enterprise challenge gives a £20 starter fund and 4 weeks to make it grow. The class decided to organise fundraising activities and settled on a Cutest Pet Competition, a Parent/Child Netball Tournament, Lunchtime Challenges, a Sponsored ‘Stay Awake’ and they also sold items on eBay. In total, these activities raised a staggering £1067.15!

Respectme at Kilcreggan Primary School!
Children at Kilcreggan Primary School have been working hard to respect each other. The Eco-committee presented a respectful assembly to encourage everyone to treat others as they like to be treated. They reminded us to say and do polite things and tell someone about our worries! They read ‘The Big Bag of Worries’, reminded everyone about the ‘Buddy Stop’ and encouraged everyone to try and earn a ‘Respectme’ badge.
