Kilcreggan Pupil Wins Jackie Baillie Christmas Card Competition

Primary 7/6 pupils in Jackie Baillie’s constituency were invited to design a Christmas card again this year and we at Kilcreggan Primary are very proud to announce that one of our pupil’s, Rachel Harper (P6), drew the winning design.

Chae Strathie Comes to Kirn Primary for Book Week Scotland

We were so excited when Chae Strathie, the children’s author who is currently shortlisted for the Scottish Children’s Book Award with his book ‘Jumblebum’ visited Kirn Primary School for Book Week Scotland!

Pre-5, P1 and P2 classes all listened as Chae read his new book (one of the three books in the running to win the Scottish Children’s Book Award), joined him in creating a monster and joining in with Chae’s songs.

Star Winners at Dunoon Primary!

Dunoon Primary pupils did exceedingly well at this year’s final between various local schools at the Annual Speech Contest in St Johns Church Hall.
The competition is organized every year by the Association of Speakers Club, Dunoon and is an excellent way for children to get involved in public speaking. The pupils learn to speak at their own pace as their confidence grows. Few skills impact on your life more positively than learning to speak in public. Dear Readers,
Dunoon Primary’s Eco School’s Commitee 2012/2013 were delighted to receive their second Green Flag Award in the summer of 2013. Our Eco School’s assessor, Paul Love was delighted with all the Eco School improvements our school had made for e.g. further improvements to our Fairy Garden and was delighted to witness a real life mum and dad Coal Tit fly out of the newly designed bird house made by one of our P6 pupils and their grandfather last year. Scottish Hydro Christmas Card Design Winner for Dalintober PS

The Scottish Hydro shop, Campbeltown recently held a Christmas Card design competition for Primary 1 pupils and Gregor’s design was chosen as the winning entry, judged by Miss Mary McMillan. As well as receiving his own prize, Gregor also won a new CD system for his class, and all entrants also received a small treat for their efforts. Thank you to Anne and the team at Scottish Hydro from Dalintober!

Hermitage pupils win Cross Country awards.

Getting up early on a Sunday to brave freezing temperatures paid off for pupils of Hermitage Primary when they competed at the Garscube Harriers Cross Country. The challenging course didn’t deter the pupils who secured both individual and team prizes. Hermitage Primary is very proud of all the runners, not just due to the awards they received but also because they displayed excellent sportsmanship. A special mention goes to the team prize winners. Rachael McKillop, Sophie Muchie and Sophie McAuley won bronze for the Primary 7s while Calum McGilrvrary, Cameron Cromar and Ruaridh Fletcher scooped silver for the Primary 6s.

GIRFEC National Competition Winner is Oban High School S4 Student Niamh Macauley
Oban High School S5 pupil Niamh Macauley’s beautifully drawn poster was the winning entry from among hundreds of submissions in the national GIRFEC student competition. Sponsored by the Scottish government’s programme known as Getting It Right For Every Child, the topic for the design competition was “What does well being mean to you?”

Oban High School S3 Pupils Create Book Trailers for Scottish Book Trust

A talented group of S3 pupils from Miss Breuer’s class made some great trailers for the Scottish Book Trust to be used for the Scottish Book Awards. They are well worth a watch! Check out the links to see them on the Scottish Book Trust website HERE

Nature of Scotland Awards 2013

On Wednesday 30th October representatives from SNAPBERRY, the photography collaboration between Lochgilphead High School and SNH, attended a black tie function in Edinburgh for the RSPB Nature of Scotland awards.
The group had been nominated and shortlisted in the largest category, the Community Initiative award, and faced fierce competition from projects across Scotland. We were absolutely thrilled to be runners-up and recieve a Highly Commended award which will have pride of place in the school trophy cabinet.

Look and Learn Art Competition success at Parklands School!

Congratulations Mia Ward of Parklands School, for winning 1st place in the September 2013 Look and Learn Art Competition, on the theme of ‘Alien Life Form’! Look and Learn is a London-based picture library, specialising in educational images. It is a member of BAPLA (the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies) and run monthly online children’s art competitions, with the explicit objective of creating the world’s best gallery of children’s art. Islay’s Success at the Royal National Mod

On Sunday 13th October the Islay school’s choirs and solo competitors travelled to the National Mod in Paisley with high hopes for another successful year at the Mod. Monday 14th was the day for the children’s competition for Gaelic learners, and Islay was extremely well represented in all the medals, with Port Ellen Primary children achieving lots of success. The Gaelic Choir won all their competitions; the Badenoch & Strathspey Area Trophy for the Rural Primary Choral Unison, the Olive Campbell Trophy for the Choral Puirt-a-beul and the Caledonian MacBrayne Trophy for the 2 part harmony. Cardross Primary Football Winners

Cardross Primary came out on top at the recent HALCO schools Ardencaple Cup Football Tournament. The Tournament was played over two consecutive Friday nights with boys and girls from all of the HALCO school able to participate. It was a great event run by Ardencaple in association with Active Schools.

PRIMARY 7 VISIT ARDMAY OUTDOOR CENTRE

Our Primary 7 pupils visited Ardmay Outdoor Centre for a three-day residential course from 24th – 27th September. They had a great time, discovering new talents, making new friends and bulding on existing friendships. During their stay they undertook their Dynamic Youth Award.

Three former pupils of Kirn Primary School travelled down to Birmingham with their former teacher, and some friends and family members to attend the Centenary Awards Ceremony of The British Ecological Society at The Think Tank Science Museum on Thursday, 26th September.

Wind Towers Scotland (Ltd.) and Dalintober PS ‘Community at Heart’ Partnership

Wind Towers Scotland (Ltd.), a company based in Campbeltown, have been involved in a ‘Community at Heart’ programme which sees workforce members assisting organisations who have bid for their time to undertake maintenance projects etc. Dalintober PS placed a bid and was delighted to welcome the team this week. Younger members of the Pupil Council were particularly keen to make sure the visiting team were invited in for lunch, given the horrendous weather! Beaming Barcaldine Boys

Smiling faces all round this morning when three boys arrived with their medals to school this morning. Well done to Ewan MacPherson and Fergus and Callan Taylor for participating in The Dalriada Tournament on Sunday 29th September. The boys from Barcaldine Primary School travelled to the Isle of Mull yesterday as part of the Taynuilt’s Rugby team – Etive Vikings. The boys played very well and got 1st place.

Cardross Primary National Sumdog Champions

P7 pupils at Cardross finished on top at the Sumdog UK National Maths Contest. The were 172 schools battling it out with over 8,325 students involved. The school scores were based on an average number of correct answers of all of the pupils in the class. Cardross came top of the leader board with a score of 736 points. The school has won a class subscription to Sumdog which is a fun way to reinforce maths skills.
