Creative Days at Kilcreggan Primary School

Creative day at Kilcreggan 3The children, staff and parents of Kilcreggan Primary School had a great end to the Spring term trying out new skills. Using our skills as Confident individuals, we took creative risks! We were organised, managed our emotions and challenged ourselves to ‘Go for it, Finish it!’ Activities that were on offer included crochet, origami, cake decorating, K’nex challenge, yoga, fimo modelling, using ipads to create games, creative music and decoupage. The children worked in vertical groupings working and supporting each other.

Dunoon Primary School Health Week

DPS Health week 1This week the whole school have been involved in lots of physical activity including karate, shinty, orienteering, tennis, fitness dance and yoga. The older children also had presentations from Police Scotland, local Health Visitors and the assistant manager from the local Oxfam shop who all gave very interesting talks with very important messages regarding physical and emotional wellbeing.

DGS Learning Centre pupils visit Ardroy Outdoor Centre

DGS Learning Centre pupils visit Ardroy Outdoor CentreDunoon Grammar School learning centre pupils have returned from a big adventure at Ardroy Outdoor Centre on the shore of Loch Goil. This three day residential formed part of their John Muir Silver Award and involved learning centre pupils exploring hillsides, beaches and taking to the water in canoes. They built dens, made fire and some even made a mud slide down the hill!

Sport Relief’ Fundraising at Dalintober PS and ELCC

Dalintober Sport Relief TyresPupils of Dalintober PS and ELCC held a number of fundraising events for ‘Sport Relief’, including bootcamps, a zumbathon and fitness challenges. The pupils raised a fantastic £1619.18 for the charity and would like to thank members of the school community for their kind and generous donations and sponsors.

Sports Relief at Strachur

Strachur Sport Relief 4Strachur Primary pupils and staff dressed sporty and red on Friday 18th March for their Sport Relief activities. We held three football tournments, refereed by Mr Ferguson, Mr Bryce and Tommi from P7. We had a P1/2 game, a P3/4/5 game and a P6/7 game.

Inter-Schools Athletics Competition

Rockfield Athletics March 2016 4Rockfield ‘A’ Team Lifts the Prize!
Rockfield competed in and won the inter-schools athletics competition held recently at Atlantis Leisure. The competition was broken down into a Rural Schools challenge and an Oban Schools challenge, with the three top teams from each of these events going through to the final. The pupils were able to participate in a wide variety of events and really enjoyed being part of a team. A fantastic result!

Carradale Primary School Nordic Walking

IMG_9232Carradale Primary School were very excited on Tuesday afternoon, as they were able to don their new waterproofs, welly boots and took to the hills. However, they were not walking independently, they were using their brand new Nordic Walking poles. After a quick warm up including balancing, the children were off on their maiden walk. Cowal Primary Schools Sportshall Athletics Festival

Strone Cowal athletics festival 1On Friday 11th March the local Primary Schools took part in the first Cowal Sportshall Athletics Festival. This was held in the Games Hall at Dunoon Grammar School and was organised by Andy Trull and Active Schools. Each school team was made up of both boys and girls from P5 and P6. All the pupils took part in seven different events based around the themes of running, jumping and throwing. All the teams participated with great enthusiasm and there was an excited buzz throughout the whole morning.

Dunoon Primary ‘A’ Team Win Inter School Volleyball Tournament

Dunoon volleyball 1 March 2016Dunoon Primary won the annual inter Primary School tournament on Wednesday 2nd March organised by Mrs McLean. The teams From Kirn, St Mun’s, Strachur, Lochgoilhead, Tighnabruaich and Sandbank were a credit to their schools as they played with skill and enjoyed the day! Dunoon A and B teams both fought hard to get to the semi finals. the draw was made and they ended up playing each other to put one team through to the final round.

Young Leaders at Strone Primary School

Strone PS Young Leaders 1Strone Primary School signed up for the Argyll and Bute Young Leaders Award delivered by Andy Trull the Active Schools Co-ordinator. 10 pupils have just successfully completed the training. After looking at the qualities that a Young Leader should have the pupils looked in more detail about how to organise activity sessions and manage situations. They quickly learnt how to adapt activities and even to invent new games.

Swimming and Badminton Success at Dalintober PS

Dalintober Swimming and Badminton success 1Dalintober PS has been celebrating recent sporting achievements this week. Five pupils travelled to Glasgow to represent the school in the National Schools’ Swimming Championship. Euan finished 22nd overall in the 50m Freestyle with a PB. Astrid, Logan, Sophie and Claudia qualified a very impressive 3rd in their heat, and 13th overall in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay – the youngest team in the finals – also with a PB.
