Maths Week at Southend Primary School.

At Southend Primary we have been learning to improve our mental agility recall. This special week was a chance for children and teachers to showcase the creative and innovative ways of making maths count.
We used Numicon to help us learn our times tables and to create number bonds and stories.

Maths Week Challenge at Lochgoilhead

Lochgoilhead Primary School participated in Scotland’s Maths Week Challenge with some exciting enquiry based learning. As soon as the pupils arrived on Monday morning, they attended a specially arranged assembly where they were all invited to help solve a problem. The large grass area surrounding the school was too long and needed to be ready by Friday for a sports event. With the usual gardening maintenance team not able to visit the school until the following week, the children were put into mixed age groups to try and come up with possible solutions.

Outdoor Maths at Minard

Collaborative work on the times tables through active learning in class.

Minard’s P4 led the outdoor addition and subtraction treasure hunt for pupils of Minard and Furnace by giving clear instructions before we began and used up loads of energy racing round making sure everyone understood what they had to do! We worked together in teams to get the answers and follow the clues.

Lochdonhead Primary School Nature Trail

Lochdonhead Primary School was selected as the Regional Winner 2017 in the Better Energy School Awards. The school have won a cheque for £500.00 “Congratulations to the pupils and staff of Lochdonhead Primary School – what an ambitious project you have embarked upon and you have adopted an extremely professional approach. We were very impressed by the way you have sought detailed information and knowledge from experts and the way that you have involved your community in the development of your nature trail.

Isle of Gigha School wins My Favourite Pocket Garden Award at Gardening Scotland 2017!

Isle of Gigha School and Community are very proud to announce that Bailey Bannatyne’s Gigha Garden, inspired by our beautiful island has won the My Favourite Pocket Garden Award at Gardening Scotland 2017!

Visitors who voted convincingly for Bailey’s design were entertained and inspired by her creativity and attention to detail. They especially enjoyed how the garden encapsulated the children’s love for their island and its beautiful natural heritage.

Skills Week at Achaleven.

Achaleven’s Got Skills!
12th – 16th June was a very busy time at Achaleven Primary!

We packed in a lot in a short space of time starting with tag rugby with Allan and Ellie who put us through our paces, kept us active and we worked together well to achieve great results. We planned a trip to Glen Nant for the Wednesday so this involved creating a risk assessment.

Healthy & Active at Kirn Primary

Kirn Primary has had an amazingly active Health Week, with a huge range of fun activities to take part in. Instructors have visited to run workshops for children to learn about Basketball, Swimming, Karate, Tai Chi, Keep Fit, Highland Games events, Baton Twirling, Indoor Bowls, Golf and Rugby. P7 children held a sponsored walk and the iCycle Programme has continued during this week.

Drumlemble Primary School – Skipping Sponsorship for The British Heart Foundation

The children at Drumlemble have been taking part in skipping lessons in the school as part of The British Heart Foundation – Healthy Heart program.

The children from, Primary 1 – 7, took part in a sponsored skipping event called Jump Off, on Friday 9th June, to raise money to help fund BHF research which will help to prevent, predict and try to cure heart disease. The charity relies on the generosity of sponsors to help them continue this life saving work.

DUNOON GRAMMAR NEEDS YOUR HELP!

A team of pupils from Dunoon Grammar School is calling for help from members of the public after being shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Apps for Good UK finals.

The youngsters beat of stiff competition from over 25,000 young people, from 1,250 establishments, to reach the final 10 with their innovative SafeStep idea. However, in order to win, the team needs members of the public to vote for them.

Dunoon Primary Learning Centre Sponsored Walk – Wednesday 7th June

A few weeks ago, one of our older pupil’s had the fantastic idea of doing a sponsored walk to raise money for Learning Centre funds, particuarly to buy new outdoor equipment and toys. The LC2 class planned and organised the walk in consultation with the head teacher. We used Google maps to plan our route – it was 2.5 miles from the school to the Sandbank swing park which we thought was perfect. We wrote to parents, made posters which the younger children in LC1 helped to decorate, and carried out a risk assessment.

A new outdoor classroom for Lochgoilhead Primary.

The timber for our outdoor classroom has been delivered and so now the hard work begins as Chas, from ArborAntics, starts the building process. We have a marquee set up to keep the rain away as he builds. The wood being used for the structure is Larch, chosen for its durability. A big thank you to Mrs Wynne for helping us to organise our new outdoor classroom, as well as Tesco Bags of Help for making this happen. Exciting times!

Minard and Kirn Primary Pupils learning outdoor together

Argyll & Bute may be geographically vast but that doesn’t prevent us from making the most of connections between schools to allow pupils the opportunity to learn co-operatively. On Friday 21st April five P4 pupils from Kirn Primary School in Cowal travelled with their teacher Mr Mair to join the Minard Primary School pupils in some outdoor learning activities in Minard Primary, near Inveraray. The Minard pupils were delighted to welcome pupils from far flung Cowal to share in the outdoor learning opportunities which are on their doorstep.

Full STEM Ahead at Colgrain!

During Term 3 at Colgrain, the pupils from Pre-5 to P7 worked together to plan a whole school STEM topic. With the key focus of ‘developing our young workforce’, our pupils chose a variety of aspects of STEM to investigate. We worked closely with partners in the community to bring our learning to life. We welcomed Helensburgh Toyota, Royal Navy chefs, Lt. Cdr. Pinder and a number of parents to school to work with us.

St Mun’s Primary School

The pupils of St Mun’s Primary School have been busy, throughout the Lenten period. Each class was challenged to organise and run an event to help raise money for two important charities: SCIAF and Multiple Sclerosis. Throughout March, a variety of activities took place: a Bring ‘n’ Buy sale, raffle, Easter Egg hunt, guess the name of the bunny competition, paper airplane race and a Coffee Morning to which parents and parishioners of Our Lady and St Mun’s Church were invited.

Title – Open Afternoon at Southend Primary

Pupils became teachers for the afternoon at Southend Primary. Parents, Guardians and members of the community had taster sessions on writing newspapers reports, creating Animations, making Power Points, designing Rennie McIntosh screen prints, experiencing the thinking behind BMT and having fun learning about the weather in French.

Achaleven 150th celebrations

The school and village celebrated 150 years of Achaleven Primary on the 25th and 26th March. A great time was had by all and the sun shone all weekend.

Marion Fisher, former pupil and Clerical Assistant at the school, along with her committee of Dawn McBay, Isla Munro and Ellie Cooper organised the reunion for past pupils.
