In June 2013, a number of pupils from Dunoon Grammar School joined together to create a short film to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking. The film was called ‘The Last Cigarette’ and was made by passionate drama students along with the help of David Hayman’s film company, Shooters and NHS Highland. The film originally came about because the NHS had asked the Charity Spirit Aid, also operated by David Hayman, to come up with ideas for an anti-smoking video that would be aimed at young people and would encourage them to not only stop smoking but not to start in the first place. Friday Fourteenth Fundraising at Dalintober PS
Pupils, staff and parents of Dalintober PS donated generously for two charities on Friday 14th November. A ‘Superhero’/Non-uniform day took place for ‘Children In Need’, with several classes holding additional individual fundraisers, including a P7 Talent Show won by the Boys’ Macarena Movers.

Pudsey Fun for Children in Need at Kirn
The Assembly Hall was the place to be to take part in Pudsey Day activities and raise money for Children in Need.
Kirn School was bursting with Super Heroes! Some you may have heard of like Wonder Woman, some you may not have, but Super Swimmer, Brainy Girl and Rugby Boy are all definitely Super.
BUILDING THE AMBITION IN ARGYLL AND BUTE
Managers and Head teachers from Early Learning and Childcare settings across Argyll & Bute welcomed a recent conference on ‘Building the Ambition’*. The document’s writer, Liz Paterson, an adviser with the Scottish Government, delivered presentations and workshops on this new National Practice Guidance. The conference was held in the Three Villages Hall, Arrochar. Parents with their children joined the conference for a short period as Bookbug made an appearance, all attendees and visitors joined in with the singing.
Remembrance day
All of the pupils in St Columba’s Primary School and Rockfield Primary School were invited to create or design a flower in memory of someone or something special to them. Some of the designs that came in were very creative and they were used to create a Garden of Remembrance within the Assembly Hall. Both schools also came together for a Remembrance Day service which was led by Rev Dugald Cameron.
Halloween At St. Mun’s
Thursday 30th October was not a good night to visit St. Mun’s Primary with all manner of spooks and weird looking people lurking about….. not to worry though it was only the pupils of Primary 4-7 who had turned up for the Halloween Disco, which was organised and run by the Primary 7s as part of their Enterprise project.
The children enjoyed a night of dancing, games and fun while they feasted on snacks including cakes which had been iced by the pupils who attend the Cake Decorating, afterschool club. Mmm!

Halloween at Kirn!
Wow! Kirn’s Halloween Party was fantastic, with so many amazing costumes, music and dancing. There were games of Corners and Musical Statues, and prizes for the best costumes. A fantastic fun night for all!
AFRICAN DRUMMING WORKSHOPS ARE AMAZING!
A recent visit to Rosneath Primary School by Chief Chebe from African Arts in Glasgow had the “joint jumpin'”. What a wonderful learning experience.
The day began with a whole school Assembly related to Black History Month as part of our school’s Global Citizenship journey. The children were amazed at just how far some children have to walk in African countries to collect clean drinking water.
Argyll Collection Writing Competition Winners
CAST is happy to announce that the following budding graphic novel creators have won prizes in the 2014 Argyll and Bute Writing Competition, supported by Scottish Book Trust. First prize is scooped by Ellie Grierson from Lochdonhead Primary, second place goes to Holli Wilson from Rhu Primary and third is awarded to Morvern Paisley from Clachan Primary. Halloween Party at Strone Primary School
Pupils at Strone Primary transformed themselves into gruesome Halloween characters and enjoyed an afternoon of fun and games.
DPS Halloween Disco Fun!
Dunoon Primary had an exciting Halloween disco provided by their wonderful PTA last night. The hall was adorned with the pupils Halloween art work and decorations. The flashing lights set the scene for a fun filled night as the DJ Steven played a good selection of songs that the pupils had chosen themselves. The teachers were hard at work providing fun Halloween activites like feely boxes, apple dooking and doughnuts on a string.
Taynuilt Nursery Celebrate Halloween
The staff and children at Taynuilt Nursery were visited by their pumpkin friend who joined them for a spooky fun filled party.
Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2014 at Rothesay Primary
Rothesay Primary had a fantastic start to the day today with an inspiring talk and production by Neil Adam and Judy Turner, visitors from Australia, as part of the 2014 Scottish International Storytelling Festival. Our visitors were organised by Patricia McArthur from Rothesay Library and they were a huge hit with Primary 6 and 7 pupils from RPS.

Red Hot at St. Joseph’s!
Last week the children of St Joseph’s were delighted to welcome to school Craig Munro, a member of the band ‘The Red Hot Chilli Pipers’. Craig was in fact taking part in a partnership programme which had been set up by Mrs McLean who specialises in Technology at St. Joseph’s. Mrs McLean had written to parents and family members to ask if any engineers would come into school and give the children a presentation on the life of an engineer.
Really Small Scientists Win Prizes
Following the Nano-Science workshop in September, Primary 3 and 4 pupils from Dunoon Primary School produced posters about Nano-Jelly. During the workshop, run by the Really Small Science Group from Strathclyde University, the pupils became ‘Really Small Scientists’ for the day and learned about the world of Nano-Science. They discovered how everyday items such as jelly and even their own bodies are made up of tiny nano-sized molecules.

One of our tutors scoops the ‘ultimate accolade’ !!!!
One of Argyll and Bute’s instumental music tutors Stuart Liddell, from Inveraray, has been crowned the Glenfiddich Piping Champion. The event, now in its 41st year, is seen as piping’s “ultimate accolade”. The championship is only open to those who have achieved success in other solo piping competitions earlier in the year. Port Ellen Success at the Mod
Port Ellen Primary School have again been very successful at the National Mod, which this year was held in Inverness. The schools gaelic Choir, Coisir Bun-Sgoil Port Ilein, won the choral unison rural primary, choral Puirt-a-beul and choral 2 part harmony learner. Their was success for individuals also, with Rebecca coming first and Rowan coming second in the solo singing 7-8, Eva coming first in the solo singing 9-10 and Abbie coming first in the solo singing 11-12 girls and Asher in the boys category. Marvellous Macmillan Coffee Morning at DGS
DGS Staff and invited visitors enjoyed a fantastic coffee morning organised by pupils from the school’s learning centre on Thursday, 2 October – all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
What a load of rubbish!
As a conclusion to their IDL (Inter disciplinary Learning) of Eco, the children of Clachan and Skipness Primary Schools put on a show stopping performance. As part of their learning the children had completed either a beach clean or a litter walk around their village.
Achahoish Art Exhibition
This term our art project has been about Our Identity and what we have in Common. During this learning we took lots of photographs of our favourite things at school – in the class room and the playground – and at home. We took photos of our families, our toys, our pets and our bedrooms.
