Strachur Primary Bring and Buy Sale

Strachur PS Transition bring and buy 1P6-7 held a Bring and Buy Sale in their classroom today and raised £93! This goes towards the P7 transition trip to Benmore next year. They will have the chance to bond with their future Dunoon Grammar peers. Thanks to all the families who donated items to sell. Well done P6-7 and Mrs Tato!

Colgrain Primary Health Week

Colgrain health week wed 011Colgrain Primary enjoyed a fantastic health week, last week. Local clubs and coaches came into school to lead sessions for all pupils. Our parents kindly donated fruit for snack times and the event was rounded off with a wonderful sports quiz to raise funds for our school hall. Thank you to everyone who contributed to make our health week the success it was.

Cowal Schools Golf Tournament

Strone and Cowal Golf TournamentCowal Primary Schools Golf Tournament took place at Blairmore and Strone Golf Club as part of Strone Primary School’s Health Week. Teams from Innellan, Toward, Sandbank, Strachur, Strone and Tighnabruaich took part in a fantastic event, organised in partnership with the golf club, Mrs Daw from Strone Primary School and Active Schools Co-ordinator Mr Andy Trull.

Small Schools Football Festival

Strachur PS Football FestOn Thursday 5th November Active Schools in partnership with Strachur Primary School ran a football festival for P4 and P5 pupils from the smaller primary schools within Cowal, at Strachur Park. The event was well attended with teams from Strachur, Strone, Tighnabruaich, Lochgoilhead and Kilmodan Primary Schools. The competition was based on a round robin with all the teams playing each other. The pupils were all very excited as for many this would be their first competitive football playing against other schools.

P7’s at Kirn explore My World of Work

Kirn PS World of Work 1Kirn Primary School’s P7 pupils were invited to visit the Job Centre in Dunoon last week to learn how to develop their career skills and think about different jobs in the World of Work. Mrs Bancks, the Manager of the Job Centre had organised some thought provoking activities for everyone to take part in.

Rothesay Joint Campus fundraiser for RNLI

Rothesay PS RNLI FundraiserPrimary 5/4 at Rothesay Joint Campus held a very successful sale for the RNLI on Friday 23rd October. They raised a whopping £540 for this wonderful organisation.
To prepare for the sale, they learned about the RNLI by going to the Tighnabruiach lifeboat station and meeting the volunteers there. It was great fun going on the B-class rib. They also practised their money skills and customer service skills before the big day.

Gavin Lawson, Store Manager of Tesco Campbeltown, kindly donated 300 apples for Dalintober Primary School and ELCC’s upcoming Hallowe’en parties. We are extremely grateful for their generosity and look forward to working with the store and team in future school and community projects.

Bowmore Rocks!

Bowmore rock n roll skool 3Once again our wonderful Kitchen Ladies put on a spectacular themed lunch for us – our hall and kitchen were transformed into an American diner. Cadillacs, jukeboxes as well as records adorned our walls as we sat down to enjoy our meal together.
On the menu, there were burgers, hotdogs, cream sodas as well as some amazing ‘ice-cream’ cones which were made out of cones and butter icing – no melted ice-cream for us!

Blue Kangaroo Mid Argyll Transition Event

Mid Argyll Transiton 2015 2Mid Argyll schools and nurseries came together last week to celebrate their joint transition project , Blue Kangaroo with a very different parents’ night for P1 children. The project provided continuity and progress for children during their transition into P1. The learning started in nursery, with a wide variety of experiences, taking account of the children’s interests and involving parents and grandparents with one grandparent knitting a very special Blue Kangaroo.

Southend Primary School – MacMillan Cancer Support coffee afternoon.

Southend Coffee Morning 3P5-7 at Southend Primary School organised and held a MacMillan Cancer Support coffee afternoon on Friday 25th of September. Seasonal healthy vegetables, grown and harvested by the children, Christmas cards, and delicious home baking were on sale. A fantastic amount of £513 was raised. A huge thank you to all parents, the local community, and to those who were involved in supporting this worthwhile event.

Dalmally does Ready, Steady Cook!

Dalmally Ready Steady Cook 2In celebration of ‘School’s Food Day’ and as part of our Health and Wellbeing project, pupils at Dalmally Primary took part in a special clan challenge to design and create their very own healthy pizzas. Led by Miss MacKechnie, the whole school, including the nursery, joined in and enjoyed the opportunity to learn lots of new skills in the process. We even had a special guest judge, Sally Macleod from Glenorchy Lodge Hotel, who showed us how to toss a pizza base and helped our school cook Julie to judge our finished pizzas.

Dalintober PS Marks ‘School Food Day’

Dalintober PS Grow Your Own Food DayPupils, staff and Catering Staff decided to mark ‘School Food Day’, celebrating ‘Scotland’s Year of Food’ by holding an ‘Eat What You Grow’ lunch. Fruit and vegetables, grown on the school allotment, was harvested by members of the school’s Eco-Group and brought fresh from the site to the kitchen. The Catering Staff used the produce to make potato soup, potato salad, broad bean frittata and apple crumble – a sumptuous feast that was enjoyed by all!
