Ellis Carmichael and Ken Oxland from the Oban Burns Club, joined staff, pupils and children from the Pre 5 Unit at Strath of Appin Primary School to celebrate Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. After a traditional lunch of haggis, neeps and tatties, the guests enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment provided by the children. The children recited poems and sang songs in Scots, including the Shooglie Wooglie!

Strachur Primary celebrated Robert Burns’ birthday in style on Monday – with singing, dancing, poetry, music and (of course) haggis!
Parents and invited guests were treated to an amazing afternoon of entertainment and Traditional Scottish Food at Kirn Primary School annual Burns’ Supper. The Primary 7 pupils organised this wonderful event themselves, serving the food, providing the entertainment and leading the ‘Bill O’ Fare’. The delicious Haggis, Neeps and Tatties were prepared by the hard-working kitchen staff and served by our P7 pupils. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this event, even Willie Wastle’s Wife!
On the 16th of December 2015 Dunoon Grammar school Learning support department held its annual Christmas fayre. At the fayre there were lots of different stalls such as tombola, raffle, baking, homemade decoration, wood crafts and Guess the weight of the Christmas cake. For the first time ever there was a Santa’s Grotto and Kirn Primary Nursery children enjoyed meeting Santa and getting a small present.

Castlehill P5,6 & 7 were very busy before Christmas when they organised and ran a Craft Fayre and concert. The whole school contirbuted with crafts for the sale and a grand total of £1300 was raised. Half of the money raised has been sent to World Vision, the other half is for school funds.
After training sessions with Mrs Ramsay, Active Schools Co-ordinator, P6 are holding lunchtime sports clubs for Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils. Great fund is being had by all!
Friday 15 January was a special day for two pupils at St. Joseph’s Primary. Both Cameron and Ellisia came 3rd and 2nd respectively in the under 8’s section of the local Toyota Dream Car competition. Both children’s parent attended along with their Head Teacher. It was a proud moment for all the adults as Cameron and Ellisia collected their prize. Who knows?….one of the children’s creations might one day grace the future showroom of Toyota yet!!!!
On Friday the 18th December, the pupils of Dunoon Grammar School took part in a whole school debate on ‘should the UK government renew Trident?’ This was the culmination of three weeks of preparation, research and speech writing for everyone involved.
Two Royal Navy Sea King Helicopters set off on their farewell tour of Scotland. One of the helicopter pilots requested a fly-past over the school and staff and pupils were excited and happy to be part of this historical event.

Primary 1 and 1/2 invited their preschool friends over to join them in their Happy,healthy me workshop. The children are learning to make healthy choices and were involved in a range of activities including ; making fruit salad, golf and football taster sessions. Catherine McTaggart the school nurse spoke to the children about healthy eating too. What a good start to the new year !
Salen Primary School held a Half and Half Draw after a stunning Christmas Production performance by the whole school and raised £352 towards school funds. Everyone had a superb night and enjoyed the high quality of acting, singing and dancing. Well done!
Luss Primary recently took part in Floris Books Kelpies “Myth of the Beast” story writing competition. Ruby in P3 won her category and received a signed copy of “An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Mythical Creatures” along with a Certificate. She also won £100 of Kelpies books for the school.
The end of term show at Strone Primary School was a battle between Pirates and Mermaids. Parents and family members were treated to an entertaining afternoon of comic performances and fantastic costumes.
Luss Primary performed their annual Pantomime on 10th of December to a packed Village Hall. This year the show was “Cinders” and all the children from P1 to P7 had a part to play. They all did a fantastic job!
Primary 7 children in Kirn Primary set off to the streets around the school in the last days of December to spread some Christmas cheer with Love-In-A-Box.
Our Round Church in Bowmore was buzzing on the evening of the 21st of December. Not only downstairs was full, but the upper seats were being taken as well! Our Nativity and Carols by Candlelight Service was being presented there this year. It seemed extra special and very fitting to hold our nativity in the Round Church. It was lovely to be greeted by our school flautists – they had very nicely set the tone for the evening and again played as we left after the service along with other members of the Primary Wind Band.

Toward Primary School held a Christmas Jumper Day on Tuesday 22nd December. We raised £24.00 which will be donated to the Clown Doctors at Hearts and Minds Charity.
With the Christmas holidays almost upon us, the children of St. Mun’s were joined by Strone, Innellan and Toward Primaries and really got into the festive spirit when they were treated to The Rainbow Theatre Group’s pantomime production, ‘Sleeping Beauty’.
The traditional fairy tale was retold by the wonderful cast, who had their entire audience, laughing, booing and singing popular ‘chart’ hits from beginning to end.
Choir members from Primary 5, 6 and 7 performed a variety of Christmas songs at Auchinlee Care Home recently. Rona also played ‘Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer’ on her flugal horn. The residents and staff all enjoyed the Christmas carols and the visit from the choir.
On 7th December 2015, the Cooking Bus came to Oban High School. The Support Department and 80 Mainstream S2s were able to utilise the Bus with support from Jem and Sarah, the professional chefs on-board. The students thoroughly enjoyed their sessions on the bus where they cooked healthy meals with local ingredients. The staff went the extra mile to cater for all needs and allergies. In addition, teaching and support staff attended the training sessions from Oban High School: Support Dept; Health and Wellbeing; Science and Modern Languages.
