The children of Kilmodan Pre 5 Unit are making good use of the new outdoor clothing provided by the Early Years Team. On Wednesdays they have been joining P1-P7 on our weekly Forest Schools sessions.
They are learning how to keep safe in the forest, they have been exploring the Dragon Tree and enjoying sipping hot chocolate in our shelter. The children will continue joining our sessions which will help to improve their communication skills, increase their vocabulary and support the development of their social skills

Calm After The Storm
Clachan Primary School pupils tackled the aftermath of the flash floods which caused chaos to their village. The river burst its banks, ripping the road surface and flooding the school playground.
The following day, the pupils formed a village clean-up team to pick up all the debris from the storm and restore the area to its former beauty. The pupils would like to thank the workmen from Argyll and Bute roads department who removed the rubble and silt from their playground. A real community effort!

International Mud Day at Tighnabruaich Primary
We were pleased to see the rain on the last day of term because it guaranteed lots of MUD for us to wallow in during International Mud Day. Pupils wanting to take part had to write and return their own permission slip and bring in a complete change of clothes.

Parklands School Olympic Challenge
The pupils of Parklands School were all recently set an Olympic Challenge. Pupils had to take part in a torch relay by either swimming, hill walking, cycling or walking. Pupils designed and made their own torches (complete with realistic looking flames!) and had to carry them throughout their challenge. All pupils successfully completed their events and were very proud to received specially commissioned medals at our annual award ceremony.

The pupils in the Eco-Group worked on the allotment with help from Chris and Ryan from the Community Garden and with Mrs McSporran and Miss Brown.

Archaelogical Dig
On the 19th June four pupils from Kilchattan Primary on Colonsay went on an archaeological dig with archaeologists from Ulster University. We went up Dun Cholla which they believe is a fort used by Colin MacDonald, Lord of the Isles. We found a gun flint, charcoal and animal/fish bones. It was exciting and good fun!

Our Primary 1 class visited Ballagan Garden Centre and Birds of Prey Centre last week. Everybody had a fantastic time. The pupils were shown how to plant-up and each child was given a pot plant to bring home. They then went on to visit the Birds of Prey Centre where they met owls and falcons. What a great day!
We would like to thank Thomas Callaghan and his team at the Garden Centre and Stewart and his team at the Birds of Prey Centre for making our day so special.

Port Ellen Go Golfing
On Monday afternoon Primary 4 & 5 were lucky enough to have a trip to the Machrie golf course on Islay to practice their golfing skills. Shona Ramsey had spent the term teaching them to putt, chip and hit the ball in the correct way, but it was so much better to get an opportunity to have a shot on a real golf course. The Machrie is in a beautiful setting right by the sea and it was a very calm and peaceful way to spend the afternoon. Some groups practiced putting with Mrs Clark, some chipping with Shona and some got to have a go on the real course with real clubs with Mr Gairns! Continue reading Port Ellen Go Golfing
Building bridges between Luing and Easdale Primary Schools
Easdale and Luing school communities are part of the shared head teacher pilot.
The children in the schools both requested an opportunity to work closer with their peer groups. The nursery children took the lead by taking a day out for a Teddy Bears Picnic in the ancient Hazel woods of Kilbrandon that stretch between the two schools. This was followed up with P4-7 joining forces for 3 days away with Stramash taking part in challenging team building activities, forging friendships for future learning opportunities.
These are the first of many steps to work together, learn together and share the two identities of these island schools. Continue reading Building bridges between Luing and Easdale Primary Schools

Green Day for Bowmore Primary!
On the 13th June, Paula Love came to visit our school in Bowmore. If our school was free from litter and we were an ECO-friendly place, she would award us our 3rd fantastic Green Flag.
We had to show her around the school and our playground. Our nursery proudly showed Mrs Love their wonderful wormery and the P1/2 class took her on a lovely litter-pick. She also visited their glorious garden which would attract beautiful butterflies and interesting insects! Continue reading Green Day for Bowmore Primary!

On Wednesday 6th June Lochdonhead Primary School had a Street Party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee which was absolutely amazing. We invited people from the local community to come along and have some fun, with some tea and home baking on the side. The pupils took on different responsibilities and worked co-operatively to make the day a huge success. We want to thank everyone who came along and give a special thanks to Sir Lachlan MacLean for planting a tree in commemoration of the event. We also want to thank the parents and staff for all their help.
