Amanda took us all on a Forest Schools adventure and invited our mums, dads, grans and grandpas to come too! We were learning about size and went on a hunt for big and small. There was a lovely muddy ditch to climb in and out of but someone got their wellies stuck and after lots of problem solving they were pulled out by a very long stick! Little did they know a troll was watching from under the bridge! Gordon and Jessica helped us to name all the things we found and sort them into big and small.

Tarbert Early Level Class : Burn’s Supper
Tarbert Early Level Class held a Burn’s Supper on Monday the 25th of January as it was a special day for celebrating Robert Burn’s Birthday and we invited the Tarbert Soup Group to join our celebrations. The Soup Group were invited because “We wanted them to watch us sing and they clapped”.
Southend Primary Gets Third Green Flag!
At Southend Primary School and ELCC we have been awarded our 3rd green flag! Our Eco Group have been monitoring litter in the playground, improving both playground areas by introducing a pond, wild flower area and grass for outdoor studies. The Pavillion has had recycled bottles put into the windows to reduce the draught. The Wendy House, Pavillion, benches and gardening boxes have all been repainted and we had fun measuring and marking games on the playground.
Burns Lunch at Southend School
Southend Primary held a Burns Lunch on Tuesday 26th of January. All children took part, reciting poems, making speeches, playing the chanter, singing and dancing. We all enjoyed the haggis, neeps and tatties with our guests.
Strachur Primary ‘Walk to Rio’
Strachur Primary and Pre-5 have started a challenge – to walk the 6000 miles to Rio, where this year’s Olympic Games will be held. We have been doing laps of the playground and have figured out that 7 laps is approximately one mile. Last week we managed to walk 250 miles! The children (and staff) enjoy the exercise and we have also been learning about Rio in the classroom.
Strath of Appin Primary Pre5 Celebrate Scotland’s National Poet
Ellis Carmichael and Ken Oxland from the Oban Burns Club, joined staff, pupils and children from the Pre 5 Unit at Strath of Appin Primary School to celebrate Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. After a traditional lunch of haggis, neeps and tatties, the guests enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment provided by the children. The children recited poems and sang songs in Scots, including the Shooglie Wooglie!

Strachur Primary Burns Supper
Strachur Primary celebrated Robert Burns’ birthday in style on Monday – with singing, dancing, poetry, music and (of course) haggis!
DGS Learning Support Department Annual Christmas Fayre
On the 16th of December 2015 Dunoon Grammar school Learning support department held its annual Christmas fayre. At the fayre there were lots of different stalls such as tombola, raffle, baking, homemade decoration, wood crafts and Guess the weight of the Christmas cake. For the first time ever there was a Santa’s Grotto and Kirn Primary Nursery children enjoyed meeting Santa and getting a small present.

Happy,Healthy Me workshop at Castlehill
Primary 1 and 1/2 invited their preschool friends over to join them in their Happy,healthy me workshop. The children are learning to make healthy choices and were involved in a range of activities including ; making fruit salad, golf and football taster sessions. Catherine McTaggart the school nurse spoke to the children about healthy eating too. What a good start to the new year !
Bowmore Primary’s Heavenly Nativity!
Our Round Church in Bowmore was buzzing on the evening of the 21st of December. Not only downstairs was full, but the upper seats were being taken as well! Our Nativity and Carols by Candlelight Service was being presented there this year. It seemed extra special and very fitting to hold our nativity in the Round Church. It was lovely to be greeted by our school flautists – they had very nicely set the tone for the evening and again played as we left after the service along with other members of the Primary Wind Band.

The Christmas show Presented By Southend Primary
On Thursday the 10th of December Southend Primary and ELCC unit put on a play called ‘What a Star’ and ‘Christmas Is Forever’. ‘What A Star’ featured a small star called Leo who was bullied and laughed at because of his size, but God sent an angel who told Leo to be the star that shone above the stable where Jesus was lying in a manger full of hay. This resulted in Leo becoming the most special star of all time.

Strachur Primary Nativity & Christmas Lunch
Strachur Primary 1, 2 and Pre5 performed ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’ at Strachur Church yesterday morning to a packed audience! Everyone did (roughly!) what they were supposed to do and our visitors very much enjoyed it! Pupils from P3-4-5 and P6-7 entertained the audience with a few Christmas carols to finish off the morning’s festivities. Well done everyone!

Prickly Hay at Rhunahaorine!
Children from Rhunahaorine primary and pre 5 unit presented a performance of Prickly Hay to friends, family and the wider community last Monday. Everyone was delighted by their enthusiastic singing and energetic dancing!

Our Pre-5 pupils have been baking Christmas cake! We are very excited for Christmas and can’t wait to get our cakes out the oven and have a taste! Yummy!
Rockfield Early Level Department Nativity
The pupils in the ELCC and Primary 1 have been working very hard over the last couple of weeks and put on a fantastic performance of ‘A Little Nativity’ to a massive audience last week! All 110 children had their chance to shine on the stage and the audience were treated to fantastic singing, acting and percussion playing. The boys and girls or Sgoil Araich and P1 Gaelic joined together to sing a beautiful Gaelic lullaby. Tea and Shortbread were served afterwards and everyone left feeling very festive!

Scottish Book Week at Dalintober PS and ELCC
Pupils in Dalintober PS and ELCC recognised and celebrated Scottish Book Week through a whole-school project which culminated in a ‘Sharing Our Learning’ assembly. Activities included reading and voting on the finalised books for the book awards, ‘Dress as your favourite book character’, reading and creating Scots’ texts and researching the history of Scots’ language and the meanings of key words and phrases.

Lochnell Primary Children in Need Toy Sale
Primary seven pupils at Lochnell Primary organised a ” recycle your toys” event for Children in Need. They raised £165.56 selling toys donated by all the pupils in the school and nursery.
