Taynuilt Nursery Eco Topic

Over the last 4 weeks Taynuilt Nursery have been looking at recycling both at home and in and around their Nursery. Kat the Grab lady visited with her friend Haggis the Crow to show the children how to reduce, reuse and recycle. They all made a composting bin for home and a bird table for their garden.

Chinese New Year Celebrations at Strath of Appin Primary School

Children from the Pre School in Strath of Appin Primary School, along with the children in Primary One and Two have been learning about the traditions and customs surrounding Chinese New Year. Barcaldine Bookbug Visit

P2 and 3 children of Barcaldine Primary School went along to Oban High School yesterday morning to participate in a Bookbug song and storytelling session. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and even managed to get a picture taken with Bookbug!! Many thanks to Oban High School, Early Years Team, Oban Library and CAST for such an entertaining day – even the adults sang along!!

Tartan Tearooms at John Logie Baird Primary

Primary 1 and Primary 2/1 turned their classrooms into Tartan Tearooms as part of JLB’s Burns Day celebrations. This enterprise involved the children writing a list of everything they would need to run a tearoom in their classes, making posters to advertise the event and making tickets to sell to everyone in the school. Carol Singing at Bowmore

The Mainstream and Gaelic pre-five units of Bowmore Primary went to visit the residents of Kirk Care on Monday 17th December.  They entertained with renditions of ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘When Santa got stuck up the Chimney’.  The Gaelic pre-five children followed on with a lovely Gaelic carol.  This was a lovely afternoon as the different generations enjoyed each other’s company. The children were suitably rewarded by the residents as they each left with a present, tucked under their arm – thank you so much everyone!

Pre-5 Lochgilphead Joint Campus —Art Exhibition

The Pre-5 Unit recently had a visit from Art teacher, Alec Ohnstad, who gave the children some tips as they painted pictures for their Art Exhibition.  Family and friends had the opportunity to purchase the artwork in order to raise funds for the charity, Mary’s Meals.  The Art Exhibition was a great success and all pieces were quickly snapped up!  As well as the sale of their paintings, the children ran a café and had baked flapjacks to  serve to those visiting the exhibition. The fantastic sum of £80 was raised.

Dunoon Primary Choir at Clyde Cottage Nursery

The choir were at Clyde Cottage Nursery on Tuesday morning 18 December 2012 to entertain the nursery children. They had a medley of Christmas songs ready to thrill their audience. The nursery children sat quietly all the way through the choirs performance and they even joined in for Jingle Bells.They sang some favourties e.g. Snowman and He Haw. Luing Primary School’s Christmas Night of Entertainment

There was not an empty seat in Cullipool Hall when the pupils of Luing Primary School entertained parents, grandparents and members of the local community. The Scottish Education Awards 2013 were launched on Monday 3 December by Michael Russell, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning.  The awards celebrate the hard work and success in Scottish education. They recognise the achievements of people who dedicate their lives to children and young people and showcase the valuable work and innovation in learning environments across Scotland. Dalmally catches the Book Bug!

The Early Years Class celebrated book week by reading the three books gifted to children in P1 as part of the book bug scheme. After reading ‘Jack and the Flumflum tree,’ they discussed what they would put in the patchwork sack. Some great ideas included stilts to get the fruit down from the tree, a rubber ring to rescue Stu and a big plaster to plug the hole in the boat. Pre-five Mini Movers & Parachute Festival 2012

On Thursday November 8th 2012 15 pre-five groups came together In the OLI area for the Pre-five Mini Movers & Parachute Festival as part of the biennial Oban & Lorn Sports Festival at Atlantis Leisure. The event which was established in 2008 ran for the 5th consecutive year and was organised and delivered by a partnership between Active Schools, Early Years, Community Learning, and Atlantis Leisure. John Logie Baird Pre-5 Responsible Citizens.

Recently the children at JLB Pre-5 Nursery have been learning about caring for others. They are becoming Responsible Citizens by planting Daffodil bulbs to sell and raise money for Marie Curie.
Marie Curie is a charity dedicated to the care of people with terminal illnesses.
This is also being reinforced through the PATHS Initiative where the children are encouraged to be thoughtful and kind. We have a beautiful tree in our foyer full of compliments shared in the nursery. Continue reading John Logie Baird Pre-5 Responsible Citizens.

Taynuilt Primary School draws!

Last week, the whole school from nursery to primary, spent time developing their drawing skills.  The teachers included drawing in different curriculum areas from maths to PE, and on Wednesday we had a ‘whole school drawing day’.  The p1 – 7 children went to four workshops over the day where, in the morning, they drew things from nature like shells, branches, stones, driftwood etc.  They used a variety of drawing tools like charcoal, oil pastels and pencils. Lochnell Entertainers Venture Forth

The pupils from Early Level at Lochnell Primary were out and about on Thursday 22nd November. We had an invitation to sing to residents at the local care home, The Lynn of Lorn. We are regular visitors and love to sing old favourites and new songs too.  As well as Nursery Rhymes the residents were invited to join in action songs and songs about worms and frogs … we weren’t sure if other people would like these songs but they certainly did and they were happy to join in the singing and actions too. London Early Years Foundation conference report

­­Council staff highly praised at London Early Years Foundation Conference (LEYF)

A team from Argyll and Bute Council were invited to deliver workshops at the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) staff conference on the 2 November in Pimlico, London.

Anne Paterson – Quality Improvement Manager, Stephen Glen-Lee – Head Teacher at Easdale and Luing Primary School and Kathleen Johnston – Head Teacher at Keills and Small Isles Primary School were part of a group of eight who travelled to the conference from Scotland. Other members of the group included Anne Marie Burns from Glasgow Libraries, Alice Sharp – Managing Director of Experiential Play and two members of her team, along with Paul Brannigan, lead actor from the hit Scottish Film ‘Angels’ Share’.

Bunessan Primary Pre5 Sponsored Walk

On Friday 21st September 2012 Bunessan Primary Pre-5 Unit did a sponsored walk to support Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.  We walked from school to the bridge in Bunessan and back again.  The children also brought their favourite toys to play with and enjoyed a celebratory cake and juice after the walk.  The children thoroughly enjoyed this event and were well supported by family and friends.  We raised the grand total of £183.50.

Keeping Fit at Campbeltown Nursery

The children at Campbeltown Nursery are keeping fit this November.  They are going swimming  at Aqualibrium, the local leisure centre, and using up a lot of energy in the soft play and ball pool.  Many are returning to nursery in the late afternoon to take part in a Yogabugs club, where they are acting out stories by stretching their bodies in different postures.  They are learning all about building their strength and stamina and improving their flexibility.
