Rothesay Primary Pre-5 had a very lazy day in their pyjamas to raise money for Children in Need. We had a sleepover (well not much sleeping actually!) and listened to stories as we snuggled up.
After all that hard work we counted all the pennies in our bucket and found that we had raised £45.91! Well done everyone.
Rothesay Primary Pre-5 recently enjoyed celebrating Diwali, the Hindu ‘Festival of Lights’. We painted rangoli patterns on our fire-door and made little diyas to light up the Pre-5. Primary 3 invited us to their school assembly. They told us the story of Rama and Sita and we visited their classroom to find out more! At the end of the week we dressed up in our best clothes and had a party with indian food for snack.
Friday 22 November 2013 was a fantastic day at St. Joseph’s in Helensburgh as parents, pupils and staff joined forces to clean up and plant new life in the school grounds. Everyone from Pre-5 children to adults was involved in various activities throughout the morning. The Pre-5 and infant children were involved in sweeping leaves, picking up litter, weeding and planting flowers and trees whilst the eldest of these children (P3) cleaned up the outdoor classroom and got involved in raking and creating hanging baskets.
Southend Primary 2 and 4 have recently been visiting Campbeltown Library where they met the puppet ‘Sage’ from Enchanted Learning. Pupils decided to use school funds to buy a pal for Sage, so they bought ‘Onion’. Sage and Onion are now living happily together and this picture shows Caroline Corr from Campbeltown Library visiting the children at school to collect their gift to her.
Nine learners from Oban High School participated in the UK division of the global Kids Lit Quiz at Kilsyth Academy on 12th November. The Wiz Kids came 15th and 23rd in a field of 39 competitors.

It took loads of careful planning and strategic coordination but the learners and staff at Oban High School raised £2221.89 in just two periods’ time to contribute to Children in Need.
The Haunted House proved once again the most popular event of the afternoon. It was so scary that two pairs of pupils found the “tunnel of darkness” too much to complete! There were no refunds on tickets though as every penny went for this worthy cause. Witches and onesies were the fashion of the day.

An energetic and exciting time was had by all pupils and staff when local artist Sian MacQueen came into school for six days. Sian talked about her work and brought in a large textured picture for the children to look at and feel. The children talked about their favourite places on Luing many of which they visited with Sian. Their first activity was dot painting creating an abstract on a map of Luing. They worked with clay making things they had seen when they were out and about.

Moved by the images of Typhoon Haiyan, pupils and staff at Tobermory High School swung into action to organise a fundraising breakfast. Our event on Wednesday raised over £600 for the Disasters Emergency Committee Philippines appeal. Pupils from P1- S6 got together in the canteen to share bacon rolls, and the canteen made a cauldron of delicious porridge. The Traditional Music group provided a rousing accompaniment to the event, and there were games to take part in.

Last Thursday Kilcreggan Primary and Pre-5 pupils took part in an Eco Day. Parents and friends were also invited along to help. Activities included; weaving where pupils cut strips from old carrier bags and weaved them through the School fence, kite making, a treasure hunt in the School garden where pupils had to find leaves, insects, plants that matched a colour chart, decorating bird nesting boxes, amking bird feeders and listening to the sounds around us. As you can see from the pictures we all had a great day, despite the weather!
P6/7 pupils from Port Charlotte, Keills and Small Isles came together at Keills Primary School on 13th November, to rekindle friendships after their very successful trip to Oban in September. The children had been corresponding by letter/e-mail since the trip; however with some planning, organisation and good weather we were all able to come together again last Wednesday. Mrs MacDonald and P6/5 of Dunoon Primary School organised activities to raise money for Children In Need. The children sold raffle tickets to win a’ Pudsey in his Onesie’ from Build a Bear, they made and sold bookmarks and organised an art competition. Entrants had to design a ‘Onesie’, for Pudsey. On Friday the 15th November everyone in school was asked to wear a ‘Onesie’, something spotty or something yellow and to give a donation of 50p to Children In Need.
The children at Rockfield Nursery, both English and Gaelic sessions held a pyjama/spotty day for Children in Need. Parents were invited in to buy spotty cakes and we raised a total of £123.84
Congratulations to Charlie Nathan, P7, who came 6th in the Autos category of Motorcross.
Charlie only took up the sport this year and last weekend received a trophy to show her achievements this year. Well done Charlie!
On Friday the pupils and staff at Strone Primary School dressed up in their onesie’s and pyjamas to raise money for Children in Need. Pictured are the staff and children having a wee rest after their busy day!
Children, parents, friends, relatives all worked together to improve the grounds of Rosneath Primary School. Many projects were undertaken (including giving our willow dome a “haircut”, building a hedgehog motel, insect hotel and beetle B & B, planting up some wellies and generally giving the grounds a “facelift”! and everybody pitched in – the “before” and “after” showed just how much hard work went in to the day.

Primary 3 (Mainstream and Gaelic) and GM 6/7 from Sandbank Primary School are using their woodwork skills to transform a square of wood into a star with the minimum of wasted material. GM 6/7 have proved themselves to be responsible and trustworthy therefore they are making their stars as an independent mini-topic whenever they have a spare moment of the day. The younger pupils get their instruction during their Friday afternoon activity lessons.

On Monday the 11th of November 2013 Sandbank Primary School’s senior pupils in mainstream and Gaelic held an Armistice Service attended by the junior pupils, pre-five unit and staff. The older children had all walked down to the War Memorial at Lazaretto Point the previous week and researched the history behind it. They discovered plaques from both the 1st and 2nd World Wars detailing the names and roles of local men who lost their lives in conflict.

Last week Cardross Primary hosted a ‘Technology Through The Ages’ Exhibition in association with Glasgow Museums. The exhibition was part of a launch day of our very own Space Adventure 2 game. The game was designed and created by the pupils themselves on the school ipads! Many of the pupils acted as Apple expert, in the evening, presenting and showcasing their work to parents and the local community.
P1-7 pupils at Cardross enjoyed a fun filled tennis day. The tennis sessions were taken by Alan MacBeath, Head Coach at Cardross Tennis Club. The pupils were not the only ones having fun! The staff were treated to an after-school CPD event too.
