Primary 2 and Primary 5 pupils from Dalintober PS have been busy making ‘Penny Jars’ to be placed in local shops to support two important fundraising ventures in Campbeltown. The pupils created the jars, in conjunction with ‘Explore Campbeltown’ to encourage shoppers to give their loose change to funds being raised for Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group and CGS4Gambia.
Zumba Dancing at DPS!!
Dunoon Primary held a sponsored Zumbathon in the lunch hall of their school. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed it! The music and the atmosphere in the hall was very energetic and Dunoon Primary cant wait for another shot at this super experience. The staff of the Queens Hall led the way and pupils from P1-P7 were smiling all the way back to their classes. The staff are raring to go with their own Zumba Class! The pupils even had a wee class of their own in the playground after it at lunch time.
Smoke Free Me
On Friday 24th October we went to the Queens Hall to see Smoke Free Me! The actors were fantastic. In the show the characters were called Ziggy with the Ciggy, Willie Tryit and Claire Air. The show was about a time machine and Willie Tryit and Claire Air tried to stop Ziggy from smoking. Ziggy went back in time to meet a tobacco lord and a scientist who talked about the link between lung cancer and cigarettes. We sang songs and a rap! They were called Smoke Free Me, Make Smoking History and Keep it to yourself.
Halloween Disco fever at Dunoon Primary!
Dunoon Primary School’s Parent Teacher Association treated the pupils from P4-P7 to a fun filled evening on Wednesday 30th October. The pupils took part with the help of our teachers in dooking for apples, stringy doughnuts and whats in the feely box? The hall was beautifully decorated with lots of spooky characters! A very busy hall filled with squeals of excitement and laughter and there was no shortage of unusual outfits!
Halloween fun at Glassary
The parent council at Glassary helped to transform the classroom into a top to toe spooky cavern after school on Friday, complete with bats on the walls and cobwebs and pumpkins around the room.
The children returned at 6.30 for a great disco, looking fantastic in their halloween costumes. Fun was had by all with traditional Halloween games and a surprise appearance of two life size mummies to scare and then dance with the children!
Year of Faith Mass
Friday 1 November 2013 will go down in the history of St Joseph’s Primary School as a monumental day as The Most Reverend Philip Tartaglia, Archbishop of Glasgow visited the school to say a special Mass. Archbishop Tartaglia was there not only to celebrate All Saints Day but also as a culmination of the school’s Year of Faith activities.
Healthy Breakfast Bonanza at Strath of Appin Primary School
As part of their Health and Wellbeing topic, all the children in the school have been learning about healthy eating and the importance of not skipping breakfast. The children came up with a variety of healthy options that they wanted to try at the Breakfast Club and over the five days the children were given the opportunity to taste these. Options included fruit juices, fresh and dried fruit, whole grain cereals, porridge, wholemeal and seeded breads, yoghurt and semi-skimmed milk.

Two pupils at Dunoon Grammar School received a very pleasant surprise on returning from the October break, when they were called to the school office to find an envelope waiting for them from pop sensations, One Direction.
Nature of Scotland Awards 2013
On Wednesday 30th October representatives from SNAPBERRY, the photography collaboration between Lochgilphead High School and SNH, attended a black tie function in Edinburgh for the RSPB Nature of Scotland awards.
The group had been nominated and shortlisted in the largest category, the Community Initiative award, and faced fierce competition from projects across Scotland. We were absolutely thrilled to be runners-up and recieve a Highly Commended award which will have pride of place in the school trophy cabinet.

Halloween ‘Havoc’ At St. Mun’s
In a break from the traditional Halloween Disco, the children of St. Mun’s Primary were treated to a whole day of Halloween activities, fun and games.
The morning saw the children take part in a carousel of activities including arts and crafts, biscuit decorating , scary stories, sensory ‘feely’ basins filled with lots of unthinkable things and fancy dress parades, to name just a few. While the afternoon was full of dancing, dooking for apples, stringy donuts and party games.

St Joseph’s VIB meets VIPs!!!!
St Joseph’s Very Important Bear meets some Very Important People!
In P6 & P7 this year at St Joseph’s the children’s very important bear, Buddy, has been visiting some wonderful places and the resulting creative and expressive language from the children’s accounts of these were a dream to hear. However, the other week Buddy was already ‘booked’ for an adventure when another P7 child asked to take him to the STV Appeal.
Smoke Free Me
Castlehill’s P7s joined up with other local schools on Monday 28th Oct at Dalintober Primary to take part in the Smoke Free Me presentation performed by Raenbow Productions. The children have been learning about the effects of smoking recently and this was the culmination of their work. The pupils had a great time interacting with the drama group and highlighting the alarming, but true, facts they had discovered about the consequences of becoming a smoker.

Look and Learn Art Competition success at Parklands School!
Congratulations Mia Ward of Parklands School, for winning 1st place in the September 2013 Look and Learn Art Competition, on the theme of ‘Alien Life Form’! Look and Learn is a London-based picture library, specialising in educational images. It is a member of BAPLA (the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies) and run monthly online children’s art competitions, with the explicit objective of creating the world’s best gallery of children’s art. AT KILCREGGAN PRIMARY SCHOOL
On Friday 11th October our pupils took part in a Skipathon in aid of The British Heart Foundation for which the pupils were sponsored. Each class had spent some time learning skipping routines set to music and parents and friends were then invited to attend a demonstration. On the same day we were all encouraged to wear red, white & blue and make a donation to support The Armed Forces charities.
Wonka’s Surprise
St. Joseph’s Golden Tickets!
Such is the ethos at St. Joseph’s that when one class starts a project…..we all get involved!! Happily that includes the entire school family and this week it was the turn of the catering staff to help develop the new P5 Interdisciplinary study ‘Wonka’s Surprise’. Canteen supervisor Sue and her staff took an enterprising view of the month’s ‘theme day’ to create a Willy Wonka style lunch.
First Nation People Visit Rothesay Primary
We were lucky to have a visit from Robert Gladue and Jason Chamakese on 22nd October. They are First Nation People from Saskatchewan in Canada. They shared some of their traditional stories , sang some wonderful Cree songs and played their instruments. They taught us lots about how they live on their Reserve in Canada. They are touring the country sharing their heritage and culture.
Beautiful Butterflies
Primary four pupils at Colgrain Primary school have had the opportunity to care for and release Painted Lady Butterflies. On the 12th September the tiny caterpillars arrived through the post in a tub full of food. After 2 weeks the caterpillars had formed their chrysalides and were then ready to be transferred into a butterfly garden. On the 30th September an amazing thing happened – the butterflies began to emerge from their chrysalides! Primary four pupils were extremely lucky to see this super transformation. After a few days of admiring the beautiful butterflies and feeding them with homemade nectar and fruits, primary four pupils were very proud to set them free in the school Eco Garden. What an amazing experience and a great addition to our Living Things topic.
John Logie Baird Learning Festival
John Logie Baird PS Success Again
Recently John Logie Baird PS invited all children and their families to school in the evening to celebrate in the style of a Learning Festival. Many families attended, with our children very obviously proud of their achievements and learning over the course of term one. Stimulating and exciting learning experiences, designed to make parents and children think, were evident in all classrooms. Congratulations to everyone for another successful event!
