P5/6 Friday 15th May

Fun Friday!

I hope you all know how the systems work now: if not please look at some of the old “Daily Plans” or ask me on Teams. The use of Teams went really well last week, thank you. I have tidied up “Files” a bit more and, I think, made it easier to use and find things. Please let me know if you have any issues with it.

I want us to spend some time reflecting on the learning we have done in all areas of the curriculum in P5/6. What have we done? Try to make a list in a word document with your name as part of the title (eg “Joe H Learning in P56”) and up-load it into the new folder “Learning in P56”. Try to not focus on Maths and Literacy, but all the other areas.

Spelling activity: choose a list of Fry’s words that is appropriate for yourself. Create a Word document with a table of 2 columns and 25 rows. Write your chosen 25 words in the first column. Using a dictionary, on-line or book, put a definition of the word in the second column next to it. I have created an example to support you if you are not sure how to do this. I have also created a dedicated folder in “Files” for this work. Please include your name as part of the file name to differentiate it from the others. Ethan is now an expert at “HotPotatoes” quizzes and has already made several. I am hoping that he can lead the learning and teach some of you how he did it. Please try them and tell me what you think. Here is a link https://hotpot.uvic.ca/ to where you can download the program and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3pMWXqeqdo is a tutorial on how to use one of the applications in it. I think we could also use it for maths, possibly to help teach some of the children in the lower school, and maybe set some more challenging activities for your classmates.

Topic –What about making a film? Do you have Windows Media Player on your computer? If not please try to download and install it. Is there any other way we could film it? Could we use telephones? What apps could we use? I have created a dedicated folder for this work in “Files” as well.

Has everyone finished their work on money yet? If not, finish money first and then move onto measure. I think all 4 parts of TJay 2a Chapter 13 (a,b,c and d) are useful. Most of you seem to be working your ways well through this. It will help support your work on decimals to 3 places.

  TJay 1b  TJay 2a  TJay 2b
Money  Chapter 7  Chapter 8  Chapter 7
Measure  Chapter 15  Chapter 13a,b,c and d  Chapter 13

Here is an additional maths resource for you all, which you might want to prepare for Monday

https://thenationalschoolspartnership.com/4C7I-U1LL-E024F84E36/cr.aspx

Education City: You all appear to still have quite a lot of unfinished activities so I will wait until I publish some more.

I have created a set of folders dedicated to Mrs Lockharts work. Go back through these, making sure you have done each one.

Keep your personal projects going- you still have the folder to post them in to.

Logan S is growing vegetables as a health project. Ethan has also now started growing strawberries. Anyone else?

Keep your daily diary going, recording what you are doing, what exercise you do, what you eat and how you feel.

Continue to practise your French using the resources from the link below: https://powerlanguage.courses/forfamilies/french/ For those of you that have finished the above French resource here two more for youhttps://www.french-games.net/frenchtopics and https://www.linguascope.com/secure/default.php You will need a password for the second one, which is on the document “Linguascope confirmation”.

Don’t forget to do the day’s activities on BBC “Bitesize”.

Exercise with Joe (or his girlfriend!? https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/joinin/bp-joe-wicks-workout

And finally “Covid Related Activities”: please read it.

Take care all of you and have a good weekend.

We are going to revisit a Christian ceremony that we have talked about before. Do you remember a Christening when a baby is welcomed into the church? Look at the youtube link and see Jack the puppet visit a church again.

Now complete the Christening (or Baptism as it is sometimes called) worksheet. Put the words from the wordbank in the correct place. Use the first sound as a clue if the word is tricky to read.

An example below-

Have a go at the examples below- How many beads do you see and how do you see them? Draw the rekenrek pattern to show your thinking

Deans Den- Friday 15th May

Good Morning all and I hope you have had a good week. Did you enjoy Well- being Wednesday? I am sure you might be missing our time together in Deans Den, especially snack time. I have found a recipe on Big Cook, Little Cook where they make crispy bricks for The Three Little Pigs! They sound delicious as they are made using marshmallows. Why not ask a grown up to help you make them? Yum, Yum!! Have a super weekend and I will check in with you all next week.

P3- Friday 15th May

Happy Friday!! Hope you are all safe and well and have been enjoying the different learning activities provided by Mrs Hillan and Mrs Lockhart. Today is International Families Day and whilst we can’t spend time with our extended families at the moment, I thought it would be a good opportunity to spend quality time with the grown ups in your house. Maybe you could go on a walk together, watch a movie or play a board game. The Morrison family like to play frustration and it can get quite competitive!!

Maths

This week we are going to explore the different units of weight. Can you think why this is important to learn and which jobs would use measurements such as kg and g? Read the powerpoint that explains different units of weight and I have  attached a challenge sheet, where you could bake something at home and record the different units of weights used. Enjoy!!

Numeracy

Yesterday, we worked on finding half of numbers. How did you work it out? Remember, a half means splitting an object into 2 equal parts. Today, I would like you to use the same resources as yesterday, but this time you are going to try and find a quarter of the numbers below. Can you remember how many equal parts you need to split an object into to find a quarter?

  • 4
  • 8
  • 12
  • 16
  • 20

Discuss your strategies with someone at home. How many equal groups did you split the numbers into?

Reflections

It’s reflection day! Use the template to reflect on your week of learning. Once you have finished your reflections, think about all the things you have learned in the past 3 weeks. Have you noticed progress in your learning? Maybe you are more confident with number work, you have learned a new sound or maybe your handwriting has improved? Think of at least 2 improvements you have made and share this with your family members!

National Photo competition – “HOLD STILL” – a moment in time

https://www.npg.org.uk/hold-still/

Spearheaded by The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the National Portrait Gallery, Hold Still, a portrait of our nation in 2020, is an ambitious community project to create a unique photographic portrait which captures the spirit, mood, hopes, fears and feelings of the nation as we continue to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak.

Whilst many people’s lives are on hold to help protect our helpers and heroes, there are some that are working harder than ever, and others that are enduring the upheaval of hardship and loss. Hold Still will capture a snapshot of the people of the UK at this time, creating a collective portrait of our nation which will reflect resilience and bravery, humour and sadness, creativity and kindness, human tragedy and hope as we hold still for the good of others, and celebrate those who have continued so we can stay safe.

The Duchess and the National Portrait Gallery invite you to submit your own photographic portrait, taken during these extraordinary times, which responds to one of the following themes:

  • Helpers and Heroes
  • Your New Normal
  • Acts of Kindness

One hundred shortlisted portraits will feature in a virtual exhibition on the Gallery’s website and a selection of images will also be shown across the UK later in the year.

The project is completely free and open to all ages and abilities. Images must involve people, and can be captured on phones or cameras. Each image will be assessed on the emotion and experience it conveys rather than its photographic quality or technical expertise. The closing date for submissions is the 18 June 2020.

I love taking photos, and maybe you already have that special portrait of someone in your family or a selfie, that captures this moment in time?

Worries!

Have you heard the story “The huge bag of worries” ?

I like it because it reminds us that lots of people have worries and the more you think about them and carry them around in your mind, it is like carrying a bag that gets heavier and heavier until it’s just too much to carry!

Watch the video to find out what to do if you feel this way too!

This is a nice idea you might like to try – to doodle away your worries!
