P4/3 Update

It has been another quick and busy week as we near the end of our time together in P4/3. The children have adapted well to change and enjoyed meeting their new teachers for next term. Mrs Morrison is proud of you all.

Health and Well-Being

We continued our ‘Changing Me’ topic and explored how our bodies change as we get older. The children displayed great maturity discussing the subject and both Mrs Morrison and Ms Webster were proud of them all. Well done P4/3!

Literacy and Numeracy

We have revised our writing skills as the children created their own imaginative stories. Mrs Morrison enjoyed reading them.

We revised our mental numeracy strategies that we have worked on during our number talks lessons. Keep practising P4/3!

Next week is our last week together and what a journey it has been. I am so proud of each and every one of them as they have adapted so well to the changes that have occurred throughout the year. Well done P4/3!

P4/3 Update

Another busy week in P4/3! We continue to work on improving our literacy and numeracy skills. Well done to those children who have worked hard to become independent learners, Mrs Morrison is proud of you all!!

Literacy

We continue to work on our listening and talking skills, in particular presenting information in front of others. Here are some more pictures:

Numeracy

We have begun to look at fractions and explored what half and a quarter of an object would look like. We have also looked at the written form. Please practise with your child.

Health and Well-Being

We have started our new topic, ‘Changing Me’ and looked at what babies need to survive, from their time in the womb and when they are born. The class contributed to discussions in a mature manner, well done P4/3!

P4/3 Update

It has been another busy week in P4/3. We  made the most of the sunshine and took our learning outside. Some children presented their class talks out on the field, here are some pictures;

More photos to follow next week.

Numeracy

We continued to develop our understanding of division and looked more at solving division word problems. Some children challenged themselves to look at division sums with remainders. Well done P4/3! Next week we will look at fractions.

Literacy

We explored the  new writing genre of Narrative writing. We discussed what kind of writing this would entail and discovered that if we wanted to become the next JK Rowling or Roald Dahl, then we would need to be familiar with and practise this type of writing. We will work on improving our imaginative writing over the next few weeks.

Health and Well-Being

We continue to explore friendships and the different ways to be a good friend. Next week we will introduce a new topic, ‘Changing Me’ where will explore the changes in our body.

I will update the blog next week, have a great weekend when it comes!

P4/3 Update

P4/3 have enjoyed another successful week of learning and Mrs Morrison is proud of her class. We were lucky to have Mrs Stewart visit our class this week, where we demonstrated our knowledge of explanation writing. We explained the purpose of the writing and presented our information in paragraphs. Great job, P4/3!

Numeracy

We began our new topic of division and learned that dividing means to share groups equally. Some children used concrete materials to demonstrate their understanding, whilst others began to work out division problems. We also looked at the connection between division and multiplication. Please practise dividing by 2,5 and 10. Homework sheets will be sent home on Monday.

Literacy- Class Talks

Presenting information in front of others can be a nerve-wracking experience and as a class we discussed how some people are more confident than others at delivering this skill. However, we are all willing to give this a go and support and encourage each other. Well done to Isla and Ethan who presented their talks and answered questions from their friends. I look forward to listening to other children next week.

Have a lovely weekend and I will check in with you again next Friday.

P4/3 Make Their Own Rules!!

We continued to learn about Ancient Egyptian times and this week we learned how Pharaohs made all the rules for people to follow. This lead to an entertaining discussion about what rules P4/3 would implement. Here are some of the suggestions;

” Only be nice” Joseph

“To able to leave school whenever you want!” Charlie

“Have everything for free!” Brendan

Literacy

We continued to practise explanation writing and this week we used our learning from Mrs Dobbie to help explain ‘How Paper turns into Trees.’ Firstly, we made notes to help us write our ideas in paragraphs. We are certainly improving, well done P4/3!

Numeracy

This week, we assessed our knowledge of multiplication. Assessment is a good way for Mrs Morrison to see what the children have learned, but also for the children to not only recognise success, but to identify areas to improve. Next week we will learn about division.

Enjoy your long weekend, hope the sun shines and I will post again next Friday.

Ancient Egypt comes to P4/3!

We continue to explore our topic, Ancient Egyptians. Following last week’s virtual lesson with Mrs Liddell, we were lucky enough to have a delivery of artefacts from Egyptian times. This was so interesting as it enabled us to look closely at the items and learn more about them. A big thank to Mrs Liddell for enabling us to do so.

Numeracy

We continue to develop our understanding of multiplication. Most children can apply their knowledge in a range of ways, including describing arrays of numbers. Have a look at some of our examples:

Health and Well-Being

We continued to discuss the topic of Friendship and identified the qualities of a good friend. We then acted out different scenarios of how to resolve conflict and make everyone feel safe and secure. Here our some of our efforts;

What a busy, productive week it has been ! Well done P4/3!

A Short, but Busy Week in P4/3!

It was a fantastic start to our week as we took part in a virtual lesson with Mrs Liddell, from museum services. She was able to share her knowledge about the Egyptians and showed us some artefacts too! It was really interesting to learn some new facts and also to apply our questioning skills to broaden our understanding. Here are some of the questions we asked:

“Why was the bracelet so important to Egyptians?” Lexie

“What food did the Egyptians eat?” Elkie

We continued to work on the explanation genre of writing, using the context of ‘How a Caterpillar Morphs into a butterfly” Almost all children were more confident with the content and structure of writing and next week we will continue to practise, but with less help from Mrs Morrison! I’m sure the children will rise to the challenge!

In numeracy, we continued to develop our skills in multiplying numbers. Some children worked on describing and building arrays (groups of), whilst others tackled multiplication word problems. It was a challenge for all, but we gave it a go, well done P4/3!

I’m sure next week will be just as much fun!

Update from P4/3

It has been another busy week in P4/3. We have been able to spend more time on our Egyptian topic and the children enjoyed learning why the River Nile was so important to the  Ancient Egyptians. We used our note taking skills to record information and discovered facts such as “The Nile would flood every year to help fertilise the soil for crops to grow” Brendan. As a class we enjoy directed drawings lessons. Not only does this improve our drawings skills, we have to listen and follow instructions to help create the best pictures. Here are some examples of our work:

In numeracy, we began to learn about the concept of multiplication. We discovered that multiplying is just “a quicker way of adding numbers together” Ethan. We explored sets of numbers and began to learn or revise the 2x, 5x and 10 x table. Please practise these tables with your child. The children love to add a competitive element to their learning and enjoy testing themselves against the timer in different games.

In literacy, we learned a new genre of writing, explanation writing. It was a little tricky for us to complete, but we will continue to practise over the coming weeks.

Have a lovely long weekend and I will check in with you next Friday.

A Busy Week in P4/3!

It has been lovely for us all to be back together after the Easter holidays. Everyone (including Mrs Morrison) is feeling refreshed after the break and looking forward to the term ahead.

This week we have been revising spelling sounds from last term and practising the more tricky words. Next week, we will introduce new sounds for the children to work on.

In numeracy, we have been assessing our learning as a way of demonstrating our knowledge, but also as a way of identifying areas we still need to improve. Next week we will explore multiplication and I know some of the children are excited about this!

During home learning our Egyptian topic was put on hold and we focused on exploring our country, Scotland. Mrs Morrison was delighted the efforts the children put into researching facts about Scotland. Now we must use these research skills to find out more about Ancient Egypt. Look out for some facts on the blog in the coming weeks!

Finally, we made the most of the sunshine and took our learning outdoors. It was so nice to be together, have fun and learn as well! Let’s hope the sunshine is here to stay!!

Have a lovely weekend and I will check in next Friday.
