We had a very busy and fun first term from August to October.

All the young people of Duntarvie class had lots of fun completing their individual challenges on our walk yesterday for Streetwork. We had budding photographers using switch accessible cameras and I pads, noise detectives and singers too. We all had a great time and so far we (as a school) have raised £600 but remember it isn’t to late to donate – just follow the link – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/beatlie-school
Hopetoun class had LOTS of fun on our sponsored walk yesterday and all the children achieved their individual challenge despite the wet weather!!
Thank you sooooooo much to everyone who has sponsored us so far. It’s not too late to sponsor us if you can at….

Can you believe that it is time for a holiday again! It has been a very quick term and extremely busy. We are not complaining though and have been so happy to be in work and supporting the children here in school.
As you know we have been enjoying the topic of ‘Storyland’ this term and have had the opportunity to listen and explore the stories: Poo in the Zoo, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Elmer and There’s a Dragon in my Book. It is hard to say but I think our favourite has been ‘There’s a Dragon in my Book’.
We are also enjoying getting outside for lots of different activities making the most of getting some fresh air before it gets too miserable over the winter months. We go for a walk/cycle every couple of days and go out to the playground every day as well as gardening once a week and some outdoor learning when Catherine is in. Catherine has given everyone lots of different sensory experiences looking and using natural resources from the local environment to make perfume from flowers and also some baking with rhubarb from the garden and apples picked from a tree from a very kind neighbour.
Although we are not getting to move around the school as much as we would like we are still managing to hold a virtual assembly with Duntarvie every week and the children love seeing their friends on screen and participate in Fischy Music. Gordon and Aisling are also providing music activities weekly and this is a favourite of everybody in the class especially when we get to play some instruments.
It was fantastic to talk with some of you for our consultations it is just unfortunate we cannot meet in person at the moment but hopefully the day will come before the end of the school session! Fingers crossed you are all able to enjoy a holiday with some freedom and recharge the batteries for Term 2. Maybe get in some walking ready for our sponsored walk!
It’s so good to be back seeing all the children’s happy faces around school. I am teaching in Lommond and Hopetoun this year. Whilst I have been there we have been doing lots of art activities. This term we are working alongside the topic of story land. We have been learning about Elmer the Elephant. We used lots of coloured squares and glued them onto an elephant template. The children enjoyed looking at all the bright colours and choosing where to put them on their elephants.
We also done some printing with bright colours using blocks to look like Elmer’s patches. We made ‘you-nique’ pictures that are all different with a picture of ourselves in the middle. The children loved getting messy with the paint!
We have been learning the story about the Tiger who came to Tea too! We made some lovely tiger faces using orange tissue paper and black card.
We enjoyed listening to the Story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’. The children made sensory pictures using various materials for each of the locations in the story. Long wavy grass, a snowstorm, a forest, oozy mud, a river and then finally….. A BEAR!!! The children enjoyed feeling the different materials and textures and sticking them on to create their own story.
It has been lovely also being part of the daily routines such as snack and lunch time and other activities that take place on a Wednesday and a Thursday.

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to let you know I am back from maternity leave and so pleased to be back. I’m excited to we working with the children in Glendevon and Ochiltree classes this year. With me they will be focussing a lot on exploring the outdoors, what is growing in the Beatlie garden each season and what changes happen throughout the year in the garden and community too. We will be using our senses to explore and possibly create seasonal art as we investigate.
This term we have started to look at the flowers and fruit growing in the garden and the community. The children have already taken photos of the flowers they see, created a flower scavenger hunt from their photos for their peers to find them in the garden. We have discovered we have a lot of colourful flowers in the garden, especially pink. The children also have been making sensory flower bottles which they have enjoyed shaking and exploring the shapes and colours moving about in the water. I will keep you updated on our learning this term.

As a Rights Respecting School, Beatlie strive to support each other and those in need. Of course with so many changes in our lives at the moment it can make it difficult to participate in activities where we can come together – which we have all grown to love.
So my solution is to have fun at home with the family and support Soccer Aid for Unicef – the world’s biggest celebrity football match, raising money to give kids the best start in life.
