Primary 6 Home Learning Week

Primary 6 have been very busy this week with our online learning.

Maths – The pupils have been learning division and how to deal with remainders.  They’ve used Division Wheels, Division Jigsaws, Division Dominoes.  They’ve also tried Division Word Problems to add breadth to their learning.  They can see the relationship between multiplication and division more clearly now.

Scottish Wars of Independence Topic – Primary 6 have done a lot of fun work with their topic this week.                                                                        Imaginative Writing – this took the form of an adventure story of a hero in the year 1315 in Bannockburn whilst a war was raging.  The pupils were given a starter idea for the story and they produced some great writing for this.                                                                                  Report Style Writing– this took the form of assuming the role of a Newsround reporter interviewing Robert The Bruce about his life.      Portrait Art– the pupils were asked to look at various images of Robert The Bruce from the internet, money, images from movies, history books and art galleries.  They then followed an online portrait art lesson to learn tips and techniques and then produced their own Robert the Bruce portraits with fantastic results.

Collage Art – the pupils were asked to create an outline profile of themselves and fill the inside of it with collage art – cut out images and words from magazines that hopefully represented themselves.  The children were given extra support by watching an online art lesson for this.  What a talented group P6 are.  The results were excellent.

Health and Wellbeing – the children used a map of Broxburn to help plan a safe cycle route.  Consideration was to be given to roads, canal and pedestrians.  Again, great ideas and problem solving from Primary 6.

Well done Primary 6! We are very proud of your dedication to completing your tasks and thank you to our supportive parents too.

Magnificent Mandalas

Look at are amazing mandalas from P6b .Also we were making a recount of a poem . The poem was called The Highwayman. We were pretending to be Bess or the highwayman and telling the story from their point of view. We also finished our scratch animations about the battle of Bannockburn. We have been learning about Islam and two Muslim people came to our class to talk about their religion. In maths we have been learning negative numbers . We did blether stations about a good friendship. 😀😀

Book Week Update

We have been having a fantastic week this week, celebrating book week.

We have been engaging in lots of activities all week, and still have plenty to go.

This week we have been enjoying lots of paired reading (reading to others in the school). Primary 1 particularly enjoyed the primary 7 boys and girls reading to them.

Primary 4-7 have been going on a ‘Cluedo Quest’. Someone stole all the books from Mrs Brown’s office! They have been answering clues, leading them all around the school, to help them work out who did it!

We have been receiving some amazingly creative photos for our Extreme Reading competition. They are all on display in the gym hall. We have had children reading whilst hula hooping; upside down; in the dogs bed; on the moon; standing on top of a giant peach; on a horse; in a tree and many more!

Our teachers have been challenging us this week as well. There is a display in the gym hall, with lots of teachers hiding behind their favourite books. It is really tricky to work out who is who!

We have all been working as a class to create an imaginative display based on a favourite book, or a number of favourite books.  We can’t wait to see which class wins this competition on Friday.

We still have many more activities to do as well!

Tomorrow (Thursday) we are participating in a book swap in the classes. Every child has been asked to bring in a book they no longer want, or read, and it will be swapped with someone else, meaning we all go home with a new book to enjoy.

Also tomorrow our teachers are all swapping classes to read a story to another class.

But the thing we are most looking forward to is the chance to dress up as our favourite book character on Friday (Nursery is on Thursday)! We have been discussing costumes all week. There is a prize for the most imaginative costume from each year group.

Keep checking back for more updates!

Judo Taster!

On Tuesday 22 of April p6 had a taste of the commonwealth sport Judo. The Judo teacher was very funny and the activities were really fun. We learned that speed and strength are very important in Judo and we even got to throw our partners.

Ellie thought it was very fun and different.

Gregor thought the judo was epic and awesome.

Rachael Brown thought it was fabulous.

Some of us are even thinking of joining.
