Another busy week in the nursery.

To celebrate St. Andrews day the children have been learning lots about Scotland this week. They watched a short video about St. Andrew, found Scotland on a map,  did lots of arts and crafts and took part in  some highland dancing .

While trying to find Scotland on our map the children spotted the Scottish flag and decided to try and make their own using blue and white paper.

We then had a look at lots of different types of Tartan and attempted to copy our favourites .

Here are some photos of our learning.

Off to the Canal… or so we thought!

Mrs Thomson, Miss Mannion and some children set off to explore and discover the wildlife and habitats around the Canal surrounding. On their way the rain started to pour down so we made the decision to visit the cosy library instead!

The children had lots of fun listening to a story about ‘A Scaredy Bear’ the children decided on this story by voting for it out of a choice of 3 other stories.

The library even gave us some books for free to bring back to the nursery. Hopefully we will go to the canal another day.

Nursery Transition

The Preschool children have been enjoying visiting the Primary 1 classrooms as part of their transition into Primary 1. They have been visiting in groups and have been listening to lots of exciting stories!

The children have loved visiting the classrooms and are looking forward to doing some activities in their new classrooms over the next few weeks. The current Primary 1 will also be joining our Preschoolers during some of their activities to assist with transition.

Take a look at some of our pictures 🙂

Gong Hey Fat Choy – Happy Chinese New Year

We celebrated Chinese New Year in the nursery today.  We enjoyed noodles for snack, wrote in Chinese characters at the arts and crafts area and had fun pretending to be a Chinese dragon to lovely Chinese music.
At the end of our nursery day, we took home some lucky Chinese money envelopes with sweets and fortune cookies. Many thanks to Thomas’ mum and Megan’s mum for kindly gifting these for all our boys and girls.

Gong Hey Fat Choy everyone!

Nursery Pets!

A great morning was had on Wednesday when we had a visit from ‘Pets at Home’ in Livingston. We were delighted to welcome Lewis and Kelly Ann and 2 lovely guinea pigs, a rabbit and a hamster. The children were allowed to stroke the pets and ask lots of questions. we explained that we had our own vet and pet shop in our role play area and that we had been doing lots of art and craft work using pets as our theme. Look out for our displays of cats and dogs. Best of all they left us a beautiful soft and cuddly toy rabbit to play with. He needs a name though so have a think and let us know what you would like to call him. Enjoy looking at the photos.

Nursery Welly Walk

Last Wednesday 5th February saw both morning and afternoon sessions go on their sponsored Welly Walk. Luckily the weather was very kind though there were still lots of puddles for us to jump in! It was also a great opportunity to observe lots of interesting things in our local environment and the most brilliant piece of news is that so far we have raised £660. What a remarkable achievement. A huge thank you to our parents, grandparents and all those who helped either by coming along on our walk or by donating money. Our next job is to decide how to spend it! If you have any suggestions then please let us know. We will also be asking the children what new toys or games they would like to see in their nursery.
