Our week in Primary 2

Literacy

This week we were working on spelling words with magic e and the vowel a. We had fun playing four in a row identifying and reading words that had this new sound. Our narrative writing was based upon the story Little Lumpty who had a problem when he climbed up the great wall that Humpty Dumpty had fell off. How could he get down safely? In reading we used the story wands to answer questions about the books we had read and to make predictions about what will happen next.  We have been reading Scottish stories and poems this week and were brilliant in our recital of Choukie Hen which we learned to celebrate Robert Burns birthday. This week we started collecting words from our story time for our Word Boost wall this week we selected: scunnered, admitted, truce, darted and shoo.

Numeracy

We were using a numberline to make backwards jumps to help us come to the correct solution to our subtraction problems. We then had to tell an alien the steps to finding the answer as he had never heard of subtraction before.  In time this week we focused on telling the time using o’clock and half past through games and activities.

Life in the Past

Our new topic will be based upon life in Linlithgow Palace during the 15th century.  This week we were finding out about the location of the Palace and devising key questions that we would like to find out the answers too. We created a huge painting of the Palace for our classroom wall.

Expressive Arts

This week we made a link between the song we have been learning with our music specialist and our art lesson. We made a paper collage of ‘Three Craws sat upon a Wa’. We enjoyed singing the song as we created our art.

RERC

This week we discussed the special celebration of baptism and the symbols relating to this special time.

HWB

We completed our well-being check in for this term and discussed any concerns with our teacher. We set ourselves learning goals for this term for literacy and numeracy. We shared the book ‘Oh, the places you’ll go’ by Dr Seuss linked to our resilience work and everyone shared the job they would like to do in the future and a place they would like to travel to in the future. Lots of great ideas ahead for these P2 pupils.
