American Civil Rights

As part of their 1960s topic, the pupils in P7B have been learning about the American Civil Rights Movement. Today, at the beginning of our lesson, pupils took part in a discussion about whether or not it is ever acceptable to break the law. They then went on to learn about the story of Rosa Parks and how she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus. Pupils then reflected upon the question from the beginning of the lesson again and many of them had changed their views. The pupils then worked in small groups to create a short scene demonstrating what they had learned about Rosa Parks and her role in the American Civil Rights Movement.

Welcome back!

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to

school on Monday 20th August at 9am.

New P1 children should gather at the P1 entrance for 9.30am.

We hope to have the school blog updated in the next week.

Banksy

The pupils in P7 studied the work of Graffiti artist Banksy. They learned  that Banksy uses his work to send out powerful messages which convey his views on important issues.

After learning about Banksy and looking at his work to identify the messages he was trying to convey, the pupils then took part in a debate about whether Banksy’s work is art or vandalism.  They used their talking and listening skills and used evidence to justify their opinions. The outcome was that most of the class believed Banksy’s work to be art.

The class then used their art skills to create their own work in the style of Banksy. Take a look below and tell us what you think.

More Sclingoshorts Fun

This week in P7H, the pupils continued their work on their French animation and website. They have a busy few weeks ahead and have been working extremely hard to ensure that everything is completed on time.

On Friday afternoon, the pupils began recording videos for the website using a green screen which enabled them to input the backgrounds they had chosen. They also continued their work on the animation using a wide range of digital resources.  As well as this, some pupils continued their work on sound effects, recording and gathering information on the subject they have chosen for the website. It was all very exciting

Cardio to Music

On Wednesday morning P5, P6 and P7 children were offered the opportunity to take part in a Cardio to Music exercise class that I ran in school from 8.30 until 9.00. The feedback was very positive and I look forward to seeing how many children will join us this Wednesday. These 2 taster sessions will determine if I shall continue this style of class after the Easter Holidays. Why not try it out?

SCLINGOSHORTS IN P7H

The pupils in P7H have been very busy working on their French animation over the last few weeks. The pupils have enjoyed a wide range of learning experiences.

They have developed their literacy skills and understanding of the French language when working with Ronan to write the script for their animation.

They have developed their ICT skills when working with Rory to create sound effects and digital images.

They have also developed their art and design skills by working to create both 2D and 3D characters for their animation. They also worked to create bold prints after carrying out research to ensure that their designs were culturally accurate.

The pupils are very excited to continue with this excellent project over the coming weeks.
