The 2024 SQA Main Diet Exams are scheduled to take place over the period from 22nd April – 30th May 2024. The SQA Official Exam Timetable is linked here.
In 2018, SQA extended the length of the National 5 exams, and introduced many new exams for previously practical subjects. In 2019, SQA further lengthened Higher exams and in many cases split exams into two papers.
The net effect of these changes for Balfron HS pupils, is that almost all exams will need to start according to the planned SQA schedule, and many will extend beyond the end of the 3:30pm school day, with a consequent impact on normal travel arrangements.
All our candidates are issued with a personalised timetable, giving exact times, venues, and seat numbers for each exam. It is critical that all candidates keep a copy in a safe place; they must go to the correct venue and sit in the exam desk number allocated. Attendance registers will be taken on this basis.
- Parents and carers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the dates and times of the exams that their child will be sitting, and to plan alternative travel arrangements home where this is required due to a later exam finish.
- All pupils should use the SQA noticeboard outside the Theatre for the latest information about their exams.
- The page During SQA Main Diet Exams on the Balfron HS website will be used wherever possible to post current Main Diet Exam information.
Coincident Exam Arrangements: Each year, there are a handful of pupils who will find that they have two exams on at the same time. Individual arrangements are agreed with SQA, and are put in place for those affected, and their timetable will be manually amended with their specific arrangement. If in doubt, contact Mr Slavin.
Additional Assessment Arrangements: Every year, a number of pupils require additional assessment arrangements – their personalised timetable will reflect their specific arrangements. If in doubt, contact Mr Slavin
If there are any other concerns about specific exam arrangements, please ask your child to see Mr Slavin in the Depute’s Office.
Attendance during the SQA examination period
Study leave for all S4/S5/S6 pupils will begin on Monday 22nd April.
Returning to school after the exams
Pupils in the new S5/6 (current S4/5 pupils) return to school on Friday 31st May.
Current S6
Current S6 pupils do not return after their last exam, but must have their leavers form signed and returned to Mrs Edwards in the school office on, or before, the day of their last exam. S6 pupils should also return their school Chromebooks at the same time, and note that their Glow account will be closed. They should make arrangements to download any important files from their Glow and Google accounts prior to their last exam.
