Mission Statement

The Learning Support Department aims to support all young people who may experience difficulties during their time at Balfron High School.

This support may be short or long term and the Department endeavours to be flexible to respond to individual needs as and when they may arise.

A variety of approaches are used to deal with learning, social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.

Our long term aim is to provide the appropriate support that will create opportunities for our young people to become

* Successful Learners

* Effective Contributors

* Confident Individuals

* Responsible Citizens

We endeavour to achieve this through an ethos of collegiality, respect and sensitivity to the needs of others.

Responsibility

We actively encourage our pupils to adopt a responsible attitude towards their own learning and in their relationships with everyone. This may be demonstrated in the following ways

* A positive atmosphere during lunches and breaks.

* Responsibility for their own behaviour within the department at all times.

* Pupils are encouraged to work independently in the department, with responsibility for self-registering and providing their own appropriate work.

* Senior pupils are provided with the opportunity to support younger pupils with reading, comprehension and buddying.
