Social Subjects and RME

Team Aims

Working in line with and supporting the wider aims of Balfron High School the Social Subjects and RME Team aims to provide all pupils with an experience that is:

  • Challenging;
  • Enjoyable;
  • Inclusive;
  • Varied;
  • Motivational; and
  • Educational.

It will also:

  • Seek to instil a passion and enthusiasm for the social subjects and RME in all pupils;
  • Allow pupils to develop their understanding of the world by learning about other people and their values, in different times, places and circumstances;
  • Develop pupils’ understanding of their environment and of how it has been shaped;
  • Broaden pupils’ experiences using Scottish, British, European and wider contexts for learning, while maintaining a focus on the historical, social, geographic, economic and political changes that have shaped Scotland;
  • Allow pupils to learn about human achievements and about how to make sense of changes in society, of conflicts and of environmental issues;
  • Assist pupils in developing their critical thinking skills and reflective capabilities;
  • Give pupils the greater understanding required to influence events by exercising informed and responsible citizenship; and
  • Give pupils choice, responsibility and the opportunity to form independent opinions.
