Changes to Data Protection Law (GDPR)

  1. Parental Consent for Photographs
  2. Parent/Carer Communication

You may be aware that from May 2018, the rules around data protection changed.

The ‘General Data Protection Regulation‘ (GDPR) will change how Balfron High School can use your personal data and keep it safe, and will also strengthen your rights over your own data.

The purpose of GDPR is to ensure that sensitive or private information about yourself and your child stays safe. Although it is similar to the current Data Protection Act in many ways, there are a few differences, so we need to make a few changes at the school in order to ensure we remain compliant.

During the school session, a large number of activities take place and we would like to be able to record these on digital images.  These images might include your child and may be displayed on the school website, Twitter feeds, or printed and displayed in newsletters, in the Stirling Observer or on public noticeboards within the school.  Examples might include being part of team photographs, concert or school show images or images from trips and residentials.

  • We see this is a key part of celebrating wider achievement, and we are seeking your permission regarding the use of your child’s image.

Additionally, although we do not require consent to contact you as part of our statutory functions as a school – including communication regarding academic progress, attendance monitoring, or personal support issues, etc – as part of our work to comply with the GDPR, we do also need to seek your consent to inform you about school and parental council (ie Parent Teacher Network) events, such as social events, trips or excursions, fund raising events, etc.

  • We see this general communication with you as a key part of keeping you informed of the wider life of the school and ensuring that you do not miss out on the varied opportunities offered at Balfron High School, and we are seeking your permission to contact you in this manner.

The information in this form will be used throughout your child’s time at school.

Please be aware that you may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting the school.
