Each month the school will focus on one of the health and wellbeing indicators commonly known as SHANARRI  standing for safe, healthy, achieving , nurtured,active, respected, responsible and included.

Whole school focus on achievement through senior management conducting pupil focus group interviews with pupils and all pupils being involved in learning conversations based on whole school jotter monitoring.

Thinking Circles Question – What makes a lesson great in Holy Family Primary ?

Purpose – To assess what teaching and learning styles best support our children’s achievement within school

Main Theme Of Responses  -A combination of active group, partnered  and individual learning. Learning both outdoors and also within the school building using exploratory materials but also textbooks and worksheets. This reinforced our understanding that a wide variety of learning styles need a wide variety of teaching approaches.

11.11.19 – 18.11.19  Anti Bullying Week

Whole school  focus on anti bullying through exploration of the respectme resource #changestartswithus

This will be achieved through whole school assembly and Thinking Circles as well as at class level.

18.11.19 – 25.11.19  Book Week Scotland

Whole school focus on reading as part of a healthy bedtime routine prioritising the need for sleep.

This will be achieved through partnership working with Mossend Primary with the senior pupils from each school visiting the other to read to their younger pupils. In addition the 2 headteachers will also read to the other school’s pupils and learners will contribute their own photos of reading within the home environment under the shared #goodbooksgooddreams

 

October 2019 – Healthy

Introduction of our new  school menu.

Whole school ongoing work with Active Schools specialists in musical theatre, cricket and judo.

CNHS PE block begins for P6/7 pupils

Thinking Circles Question – How do we keep ourselves physically healthy ?

Purpose – To establish a baseline of understanding and assess if there are any gaps in this that need to be addressed.

Main Theme Of Responses – Combination of exercise, good diet, plenty of water and sleep.

Thinking Circles Question –  How do we keep our mental health strong in Holy Family ? What more could we do to build on this ?

Purpose – To assess what is working well for us and guide our next steps in strengthening mental health within Holy Family Primary.

Main Theme Of Responses  –

Current strengths – Sharing our faith, having strong relationships with our friends and the staff, working with people who are happy to help us, exercise, working with Mossend PS and having a stimulating numeracy, literacy and ICT curriculum.

The way forward – Create a wall of encouragement with positive words and phrases for us to use to support one another, outdoor gym equipment, a meditation shed or quiet area,

Continuation of the daily mile, after school clubs, school visitors, focus on reading for pleasure and cycling clubs with Lee from Active Schools.

September 2018 – Safe

Whole school road safety assembly. ( Focus on personal story of a P4 pupil who was knocked off his bike Q and A session)

Whole school Sustrans survey 2018 focusing on safe and healthy ways to travel to school.

NSPCC focus on PANTS resource highlighted by school educational psychologist at curriculum night 10.9.18.

Purpose – To establish that  we all feel safe and secure in school and highlight  the most effective ways to ensure this.

Whole school Commonwealth Judo  with Louise Renwick and individual class taster sessions.

Purpose – To understand the importance of good health in all its forms ( physical, mental, social and emotional.. ) and how best to achieve this successfuly.

Purpose – To understand the importance of  saving and highlight the difference between needs and wants. Links to the introduction of the Mosshill Credit Union within Holy Family Primary.

Purpose – To understand what would help pupils to raise their level of achievement within school and implement their feedback effectively.

27.11.17 – 2.12.17  Book Week Scotland

Whole school focus on reading for pleasure.

This will be achieved through partnership working with Mossend Primary with the senior pupils from each school visiting the other to read to their younger pupils. In addition the 2 headteachers will also read to the other school’s pupils and learners will contribute their own photos of reading within the home environment under the shared # read, relax, repeat.

This will build upon our two successful author visits this session.

 

December 2017 –  Nurtured

Whole school focus on nurture through our preparation for the birth of Christ during the season of advent culminating in our Advent Service in Holy Family Church.

Every child will be nurtured through experience of traditional Christmas party with games and scottish dancing. They will also enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch and have the opportunity to watch or participate in the infant nativity performance.

Thinking Circles Question – How can we nurture others more in December in Holy Family Primary ?

Purpose – To recognise how our actions nurture others within and beyond our local community. eg. prayer and fundraising for Fr. Peter’s Street Children, carol singing for residents of Unitas Court and the local Bellshill community.

January 2018 –  Active

Whole school focus on improved levels of personal activity.

This will be achieved through the reintroduction of our active schools coach sessions for all classes Tuesday – Thursday. Our active after school clubs will recommence and we  will participate in the NLC athletics festival as well as the NLC football and netball festival. We will continue our crosscountry training sessions and work in partnership with coach Marcus Cotter and Mossend Primary school to achieve this. Primary 5 will continue with their weekly swimming and pe sessions at the Sir Matt Busby facility. Our golden time clubs will also offer active games and running opportunities. Our whole school will continue to participate in the Daily Mile.

Thinking Circles Question – How can we improve our levels of personal activity  in Holy Family Primary ?

Purpose – To explore the existing barriers to  increased activity levels and discuss possible solutions as a group. To identify  opportunities to meet pupil needs through the targeted provision of active schools sessions.

February 2018 – Respected

Whole school focus on issue of repect;  both for others and in terms of self respect. This will be achieved through the exploration of online behaviours on Internet Safety Day 6.2.18. We will also be participating in Fairtrade Fortnight which spans both February and March. In February we will investigate how we show respect for the rights of others to earn a fair wage by our purchasing of fairtrade products. Also we will discuss the increased sense of self respect that comes from enabling fair trade workers  to provide for their families as well as our own increased self respect from making such positive choices that benefit the lives of others.

Thinking Circles Question- How do we make sure we show repect to others when we are online ?

Purpose – To gauge the children’s level of understanding of acceptable online behaviours and ensure that they have appropriate thresholds for their own behaviour and that of others.

March / April 2018 – Responsible

Whole school focus on  individual and collective responsibility.

This will be achieved through the area of eco with a specific focus on Earth Hour 2018. We will examine how our individual choices can contribute to or detract from the collective good of common purposeful action. The concept of responsibility to other people, our planet and the wellbeing of  future generations whom we will never meet will be explored in this way.

We will also have input from the SPCA to all learners on the 26.4.18 focusing on the need to care responsibly for animals and the steps to take to ensure this.

Thinking Circles Question- What promise can you make for Earth Hour 2018 – 24.3.18 at 8.30pm ?

Purpose – To raise awareness of the need for an individual sense of responsibility and resulting effort to ensure we preserve our planet for future generations.

To raise understanding of combined individual commitment leading to collective strength and powerful voice.

May /June  2018 – Included

Whole school focus on issue of inclusion.

This will be achieved through the free school trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park, the inclusion of all in our sports day and health week activities and the reconition of the achievements of all at our end of term award celebrations.

Thinking Circles Question- What was your personal highlight of the school year ?

Purpose – To hear pupil voice and plan effectively for the  year ahead to include these memorable experiences again.
