Duty of Candour Report – Kilmacolm Nursery Class

Child Protection

It is everyone’s responsibility to protect children and make sure they are okay. All children have the right to grow up in a caring and safe environment and all adults have a responsibility to protect children, this includes:

  • Parents
  • Family members
  • Friends
  • Neighbours
  • Professionals
  • Members of the public
  • Community groups

To support this at Kilmacolm nursery, we have a duty to report any concerns we have in relation to child protection. We would also appreciate it if you could phone or speak to us and let us know if your child is going to be absent from nursery for any reason on 01475 715831. If your child is absent from nursery, and we have not been made aware of this, we will give you a call by 10am or within an hour of your child’s nursery start time.

Nursery Funds:

Parents can make a voluntary contribution of £1.00 per week. This allows us to purchase additional resources to support children’s learning and development, such as baking ingredients. These costs are not met by the local authority so we do rely on the generosity of parents. These contributions are voluntary. During the year we may have additional fundraising events which we hope you will support. You will be kept up to date through our newsletter and notice board.

Snack:

Our nursery class aims to engender positive attitudes towards healthy eating together with providing opportunities for physical activity which contributes to becoming a “health promoting establishment.” Each day we provide a snack for children which consists of milk or water and fruit or vegetables. Any specific dietary requirements are adhered to.

Parents in the Nursery:

Parents / Carers are always welcome to come into the nursery class and join in learning experiences with staff and children. We offer stay and play sessions every day. Please add your name to the form in the cloakroom.

Parents are also welcome to come into the nursery when collecting their child at the end of each session…..what better way to see your child enjoying their time in the nursery.

Suitable clothing:

Nursery Sweatshirts and Polo shirts are available to buy from Smiths in Greenock. These save good clothes from being ruined by messy experiences and outdoor messy/mud play. Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather as we frequently go outdoors regardless of the weather! Finally, please make sure shoes, coats, sweatshirts etc. have child’s name on them as items of clothing can easily get mixed up.
