Numeracy & Mathematics

Curriculum for Excellence aims to provide “a coherent, flexible and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18 firmly focused on the needs of the child and young person.”

Within Craigmarloch we teach numeracy and mathematics as a discrete area but it is also incorporated, where possible, across other areas of the curriculum. Within Curriculum for Excellence, the experiences and outcomes are structured within three main areas:

  1. Number, money and measure

  2. Shape, position and movement

  3. Information handling

We use a variety of active and practical approaches to teach mathematics and we use a range of resources to motivate and engage our pupils. The use of outdoors, board games, Interactive Smartboard, songs and rhymes, Community Access and concrete resources encourages enjoyment of learning and learning in realistic contexts.
