Primary Physical Education (P.E.) Department

My name is Mrs McHardie and I am the Primary P.E. Teacher at Craigmarloch, having joined the staff in August 2016.

In our P.E. lessons we promote the physical aspect of the Health and Well-Being curriculum and our primary aim is to emphasise to our pupils the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

In P.E. lessons we also encourage our pupils to take part in a broad range of activities and therefore devote each term across the year, to a different area of sporting activity. In the first school term we place the emphasis on team games like Hockey, Football, Netball and Handball. In the second term our focus turns to Gymnastics and racket sports like Tennis and Badminton and in the summer term, we turn our attention to Athletics and field sports like Cricket and Rounders. For some of our pupils we also offer a good range of sensory activities like spinning, balancing, rolling, climbing, swimming and trampolining to ensure the needs of all our pupils are met by the department.

At Craigmarloch the P.E. department has forged a great partnership with Active Schools who provide us with sports coaches every day to run lunchtime clubs for our pupils. Such clubs on offer include Football (in partnership with Morton Football Club), Basketball, Athletics, Boccia, Golf, Dance and Archery. These clubs have proved very popular with our pupils and we are grateful to Active Schools for giving our pupils such a broad range of sporting experiences.

Over the past two years I have also begun building links with Scottish Disability Sports and encouraging pupils to take part in some of the annual events on their sporting calendar. Last year we took groups of pupils to the SDS Boccia Championships, The Cross-Country Championships and the Sportsthall Athletics Championships.

Every year the P.E. department also organises our annual School Sports Day in May!

Below are pictures of our pupils enjoying some of the activities on offer at our P.E. lessons.
