Parent Council Action Plan (2023-24)

Our Action Plan for session 2023-24  has been agreed based on discussions about the needs of the school and concerns raised by families in recent years.

It has been agreed that fundraising in 2023-24  will be used to support the school to provide –

  • Selection boxes for all pupils at Christmas
  • An Easter treat for every pupil
  • Leavers hoodies for all Primary 7 pupils

The agreed Parent Council ‘Grand Challenge’ for session 2023-24 are –

  • Support the school and gain updates on the school pitch. The PC will raise concerns, already raised by the current HT, in relation to the health and safety of the pitch and the impact that this has on both school and community activities.
  • Support the school is raising concerns about school provision in the local area. This is something the HT is very aware of and has already addressed it with GCC.

P5b Keeping busy

Primary 5b have had a busy couple of weeks.  We were lucky enough to visit Golf it at Hogganfield Loch where we got to practise our skills we learned last year.

We have also been working hard learning about the Romans, creating a timeline of their invasion of Britain and discussing why they wanted to invade us.  We had the opportunity to try on a Roman helmet which we really enjoyed and got to look at some items that the Romans would have used.

Finally we have been looking at the artist Paul Klee who based a lot of his art on 2D shapes which we have been learning about in maths.  We made our own versions of his famous work Castle and the Sun.

What is the Parent Forum?

The Scottish Government passed the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 to encourage and support more parents to become involved in the life and work of the school.

The membership of the Parent Forum is made up of all parents who have a child at an education authority school. Membership of the Parent Forum allows parents to have a say in the local arrangements to enable their collective view to be represented on matters such as the quality and standards of education at the school and other matters of interest to parents. One of the ways parents in the Parent Forum will be able to express their views will be through the Parent Council.

What is the Parent Council?

The Parent Council is a group of parents selected by members of the Parent Forum to represent all the parents of children at the school. Parent Councils are very flexible groups and the Parent Forum can decide on the type of group it wants to represent their views. The type of things a Parent Council could get involved in include:

  • Supporting the work of the school

  • Gathering and representing parents’ views to the Head Teacher, education authority and HMIE

  • Promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils and the local community

  • Fundraising

  • Involvement in the appointment of senior school staff

Who can be a member of the Parent Council?

Generally members of the Parent Council must be parents of children who attend the school and the chairperson must have a child in the school. However, the Parent Council can decide to co-opt other members including school staff and community representatives who have knowledge and skills to help them.

In denominational schools, the Parent Council must invite the relevant church or denominational body to nominate a representative to be a co-opted member.
