Sports day

This week we  had  our sports day. We did lots of different things like jumping over benches, egg and spoon race, basket ball, football and golf. We had lots of fun and the weather was good. Today we found out Ben Chonzie won the most points. So a big well done to the boys and girls in that house and all the other houses for doing so well.

This week primary 2 we have been learning how to read an analogue clock for o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. Could everyone ensure that reading books are being read at home to ensure that children are developing at an appropriate pace as we are now nearing the end of the school year and transitioning into Primary 3 where expectations will increase. Our P.E days are now Monday and Friday. Could everyone also ensure that jewellery that is worn can be removed as pupils cannot participate in P.E. lessons.

Primary 2a

Primary 2a have had a week celebrating reading. We went to our school library and picked out books to read in class. They also did an art lesson where they drew their favourite book cover. All pupils should have received a world book day token to use towards a new book. The boys and girls looked great on world book day either dressed in PJs or as their favourite character from a book or comic. The boys and girls also finished off their writing assessment for term 3 and have all done very well. Please remember that reading is one of the most valuable things children can do to support their learning so please encourage your children to read as much as possible.

Primary 2A

This week P2a had a great time starting their 5 week cycling course. They got to try push and peddle bikes and had a lot of fun. We also started our new topic on people who help us and learned about the human body and skeleton because doctors help us stay fit and healthy. The boys and girls also started their writing assessment on persuasive writing and are doing really well so far. Could I remind everyone that indoor shoes should be brought into school to ensure that the carpet in the classroom remains mud free as the boys and girls have to sit on the carpet regularly and wearing muddy shoes makes this unhygienic.

A reminder that our P.E days are Tuesday and Friday. Thank You.

Primary 2a

This week Primary 2a started a project on animal habitats and worked very hard to create fact files about a habitat and then make a diorama of their habitat that included the different animals that have adapted to that environment. They also revised addition and subtraction using place value. And finally we created another persuasive letter while working towards our writing assessment.

This week we learned a new magic E sound with A. We were also lucky to have Zoo lab this week where the children got to see a snake, a giant snail, a hamster and a stick insect which all the boys and girls got to hold. We continued our learning on animal habitats and how animals adapt to their specific habitats. The primary 2s also wrote another persuasive text asking for a new puppy. And finally we learned how to use a ruler to measure objects in cenitmetres.

The primary 2s P.E days will also now be Tuesday and Friday.

Another successful week

This week P2a began learning about magic E and have been looking at how this changes the sound of vowels in words. We have started learning about the fascinating world of dinosaurs and what they looked like and when they roamed the Earth. P2 also started learning about volume and capacity in maths. We began to look at persuasive writing and how to use bargaining to convince people to do things for us. And finally we finished off our Scotland topic by learning about William Wallace and made wanted posters for him.

Just a polite reminder that reading at home is so so important, and it would be great if all parents and carers could ensure that boys and girls are doing their reading homework each week. As the boys and girls move closer to primary 3, reading will become more challenging and so the more practise the more able and prepared they will be.

This week have have continuing our work with verbs and we also began to look at persuasive writing by looking at adverts and thinking about how we are persuaded to buy things like Lego and McDonalds. We have being learning about fractions by cutting shapes into fractions and we extended this by learning how to find a fraction of an amount. We revised 4 spelling sounds this week and will move onto split phonemes next week. Yesterday we had our open afternoon and parents got to see us doing spelling. We also did some outdoor learning this week.

First 2 weeks back

Primary 2 have been settling back in and adjusting to being back at school after the holidays. We have been revising place value in maths and the boys and girls have shown a good understanding of this in class. We have started our new topic on Scotland and have been learning Scottish words and will continue to learn more about Scotland over the coming weeks. We have been practising using verbs in sentences so we are prepared for our next writing style which will be persuasive writing. We also got to attend the P7 enterprise day and the boys and girls bought items and played games.

Can I ask that boys and girls who do not currently have indoor shoes to please bring a pair in because with the cold wet weather children’s shoes are getting dirty and muddy, which is then being brought back into the classroom.
