This week in Primary 4a

Hello everyone,

This was an exciting week as we began another topic, Space! In Writing, the children researched Mars using both non-fiction books and iPads before writing an information report on Mars using the information they gathered themselves. In reading, we read more of our class novel and in Maths, we calculated the area of shapes and converted kilograms to grams. Pictured below are Writing and PE lessons. In PE, the children participated in different stations: long jump, planking, shuttle run, aiming and throwing, and bench climb.

The children took home instructions for a homework project that is due Tuesday 16th June, so please look in their bags 🙂

Have a lovely weekend,

Hello everyone,

It was nice to see more of you this week for our final parents evening!

This week in Primary 4a, we read more of our class novel, ‘The Hundred-Mile An-Hour Dog’, and began to identify themes in each chapter! In Maths, we revisited data handling but this time, used technology to create the bar graphs with data. Below is our Mneumonics Wow Wall created by the children during an active spelling lesson and our bar graphs!

This week in Primary 4a

Hello everyone,

In line with our current topic – the World of Sports – the children wrote an information report on the Commonwealth Games and filled in a fact file of any country that has qualified for the World Cup 2026. Also, we explored the life cycle of a sunflower and focussed on comprehension in reading! In PE, we have been focussing on athletics and more specifically, the long jump this week.

Sports Day Week

Hello everyone,

This week was a very short week but as usual, P4a still managed to do loads, including have Sports Day! In Spelling, we managed to recap on most of our strategies we have learned this year and practised correct letter formation with joined writing. In line with our topic, we created abstract art with line and colour and created a sports character in the middle. We also designed an alternative Scotland football top containing culturally appropriate elements and practised note taking on a spider diagram whilst watching olympics performances.

Have the best weekend,

This week in P4a, we wrote an information report on Bottlenose Dolphins and converted millilitres and litres in Maths. In spelling, we focussed on the final phoneme family left to learn, “ow”, and the children performed excellently in their spelling test today! For our current topic, The World of Sports, we explored what countries have qualified for the World Cup and their flags. Pictured below are active Spelling and Reading lessons.

Welcome to Term 4!

Hello and a warm welcome to Term 4, everyone!

Our first week after the Spring break has been full of new learning and recapping on prior learning.
In spelling, we recapped on the first phoneme families we learned back in Term 1 – ‘ae’ and ‘ee’ – and in Reading, we focussed on comprehension of our reading books. In Numeracy, we applied all of our knowledge of fractions to worded problems and in Writing, the children were introduced to this Term’s genre: Report Writing. To properly mark the beginning of Spring, we also created cherry blossom tree art. Finally, for Earth Day, we created posters, reusing scrap resources, to raise awareness of how to help our environment.

Week beginning 23.03.26

Hello everyone,

Primary 4a has had an excellent week! In Reading, we identified facts and opinions in our reading books, and in writing we finished a persuasive piece! We continued adding fractions to make a whole in Numeracy, and estimated and measured length in Maths. In RME, we explored the Islamic celebration of Eid including the origins and traditions of the day. Finally, we filmed stop motion films using our rainforest dioramas and rainforest characters and ended the week having a film showcase of all of our films!

Have a lovely weekend,

Spring is here!

Hello everyone,

Spring has officially begun! This week in Primary 4a we started a new piece of persuasive writing about why children should not wear school uniforms. In Numeracy, we focussed on adding fractions to make a whole and in RME, we learned about St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, for St. Patrick’s day! Below are pictures of the children during football which we do every Wednesday morning!

Good afternoon,

It was lovely to see some of you yesterday at the second parents’ evening of the term. This week, the children began measure in Maths during which they had to measure the length of classroom items in cm and metres, as well as planned a new persuasive writing piece on why children should have pets. In RME, we had a great lesson surrounding International Women’s Day and discussed why this day exists and learned about an inspirational woman: Marie Curie. In reading, the children predicted what would happen in their reading books before finishing their book and reflected on how close they were to what actually happened. For our rainforest topic, we explored the four layers of the rainforest and pictured below is all of the notes the children took during their learning!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Miss Love
