This week has been another busy and exciting week of learning in our classroom!

In Literacy, we explored character descriptions and used our imaginations to create our own robots. We thought carefully about their appearance, special features and personalities before writing detailed descriptions of their characteristics. We also completed a comprehension activity about Buckingham Palace, linking to a class novel that some of the children are currently reading. A highlight of the week was a special author visit (L.G. Walters). The author shared part of her new story (Kingdom of Kilminkie) with us, giving us an insight into the writing process and inspiring us to become authors ourselves. Everyone was delighted to receive a bookmark to take home as a souvenir of the visit.

In Mathematics, we continued developing our understanding of the four operations. This week there was a particular focus on subtraction, where we practised a range of strategies to solve calculations accurately and efficiently. The children worked hard to build their confidence and explain their mathematical thinking while tackling different subtraction challenges.

Our World of Sports topic continued to generate lots of discussion this week. We enjoyed sharing our thoughts and opinions following stories from Newsround and learning more about the World Cup. In art, we explored beautiful henna designs and looked closely at the different lines, patterns and shapes used by artists. We then used these ideas as inspiration to create our own unique designs. It has been wonderful to see the creativity, enthusiasm and effort shown across all areas of learning this week.

As this is our final blog post of the school year, I would like to take a moment to say what a pleasure it has been to teach Primary 3B. Every child has worked incredibly hard throughout the year and should be very proud of all they have achieved across the curriculum. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence, skills and independence grow. I would like to wish all of the children the very best as they move into Primary 4, where I am sure they will continue to thrive. I hope everyone has a fantastic summer holiday filled with fun, relaxation and plenty of happy memories. Some pictures of our year have been posted!

We have had a fantastic week in Primary 3!

In Literacy, we learned about how to be a good sport and discussed the importance of being kind, respectful and encouraging when taking part in games and activities. We then completed a comprehension task to show our understanding. Later in the week, we used our imaginations to write about inventing a brand-new LEGO-themed park in Glasgow. We came up with lots of creative ideas for rides, attractions and exciting experiences for visitors.

We also continued learning about the bird that has been visiting our playground. We explored how it will grow and change from a young bird into an adult. Using what we learned, we started writing an explanation text to describe the different stages of its life cycle.

In Numeracy, we focused on compass points. We learned about north, east, south and west and practised moving around a compass using directions. We also worked on multiplication and used our squared jotters to help us organise our calculations and find the correct answers.

We enjoyed a visit to the playroom this week, where we had lots of fun playing and learning together. We also attended assembly, where four girls from our class gave a wonderful presentation revealing the gender of the bird in our playground. They spoke confidently and did a fantastic job sharing the exciting news with everyone.

It has been a great week in Primary 3, and we are looking forward to more learning and fun next week!

This week in P3B

This week in class we have been busy learning across many different areas of the curriculum.

In Numeracy, we have been working hard on addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers. We have been using different strategies and practical resources to help us solve calculations accurately and build our confidence with numbers.

In Literacy, we have been developing our explanation writing skills. We wrote informative pieces about the school bird that visits our playground, explaining how we can look after it and rescue a lost bird. We focused on organising our ideas clearly and using interesting facts to engage our readers.

As part of our IDL topic, World of Sports, we visited the playroom to design our own school mascot. We worked collaboratively to design and draw our creations, using our creativity and teamwork skills.

We also completed our Word Aware activities, where we explored new vocabulary and practised using words in different contexts to deepen our understanding.

In Health and Wellbeing, we enjoyed playing a game of Guess Who? with a healthy and unhealthy foods theme. This helped us identify foods that support a healthy lifestyle while encouraging discussion and critical thinking.

We were also delighted to welcome lots of visitors into our classroom this week. They enjoyed seeing our learning in action and were very impressed with the high standard of work, positive attitudes, and enthusiasm shown by everyone. We were proud to share our achievements and demonstrate all the hard work we have been putting into our learning.

It has been a fantastic week of learning and achievement!

This week in P3B

This week in literacy, we focused on developing our listening and talking skills by practising how to follow instructions carefully. We completed comprehension work based on the story of Sebastian Saye, the fastest marathon runner in the world, and used our understanding to answer questions about the text. We also got new reading books and wrote thoughtful book reviews, sharing our opinions and recommendations. In writing, we explored explanation texts and created our own pieces explaining how a plant grows, using clear sequencing and scientific vocabulary.
In numeracy this week, we focused on reading and understanding digital time, practising how to recognise and record times accurately. We also completed our Maths Assessments (MALTs), giving us the opportunity to showcase all the learning and progress we have made across different areas of maths.
In our wider learning, we followed step-by-step instructions to create our own funky line art drawings, experimenting with different patterns and designs. We also completed detailed observational line drawings of our own shoes, carefully focusing on shape, detail, and line techniques to create unique pieces of artwork. We also looked and created our own posters on our Word Aware for the IDL ‘World of Sports!’

This week in P3B

What a busy and exciting week we have had in class! In maths, we focused on comparing time using digital clocks, helping us build confidence with reading and understanding different times throughout the day. In literacy, we celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s birthday by learning about his incredible life and writing about his achievements.

We were excited to receive a new floor book filled with thoughtful questions about our school, encouraging us to share our ideas and opinions. On Wednesday, we enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day—thank you to everyone who came along to support and cheer on our teams. Later that afternoon, some of us took part in Play Along with Maths, where learning was both fun and interactive.

In science, we explored the life cycle of a sunflower before having the opportunity to plant flowers as part of our Eco-Committee activities. In French with Mrs Johnstone, we created beautiful artwork inspired by a famous French artist, showing great creativity and effort.

To end the week, we attended a special assembly where we discovered that Ben Chonzie was the winning house of sports day – Well done to everyone for another wonderful week of learning and fun!

This week

This week has been another busy and interesting one in our class. In maths, we have been learning all about time. We explored the different roles of the hour hand and the minute hand and how they work together on a clock. We practised telling the time using quarter past, half past and quarter to, which helped us build our confidence.

As part of our IDL topic, “World of Sports,” we had lots of fun inventing our own new sports. We worked creatively to think about rules, equipment and how the game would be played.

In writing, we started a new genre: explanation writing. We worked in pairs to write an explanation of what a toothbrush is and how it is used. This helped us practise organising our ideas clearly and working together.

We also completed a form on our Rights, thinking about how we show respect and responsibility in our school. It has been a productive week, and we are proud of all our hard work.

First week back

Our first week back after the Easter holidays has been really busy and exciting. In maths, we focused on addition and subtraction, using both partitioning and vertical sums to help us solve problems more confidently. We also took time to write about our holidays, sharing what we did and practising our writing skills.

At the start of the week, we made personal goals to work towards this term, thinking carefully about how we can improve and challenge ourselves. In art, we began our cherry blossom project, which we are looking forward to working on next week.

We also visited the playroom to launch our new IDL topic, “World of Sports,” which sounds really fun. As part of our learning, we created life cycles for different animal groups, including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, and insects. This helped us understand how animals grow and change. Overall, it has been a great start to the term, and we are excited for what’s ahead.
