In literacy we had our spelling open afternoon. We were able to show some of our parents or adults the important work we do using our magnetic boards. We have also started our persuasive writing. We looked at different opinions and decided if we agreed or disagreed. We then made a plan on what we were going to write. We ended the week writing our persuasive text.

In maths we looked at number visualisation and completed a number of the day task. We had to show the number in words, tally marks, a picture and even used the number in mathematical sentences. We have continued with division, extending our learning and looking at missing number problems. With Mr Milligan we have been looking at how to give change when dealing with money.

We have been learning about scotland in IDL, and have been busy making kilts, completing word aware tasks and finding out about the main cities we have using a map. In PE we played some new games, including “Andy’s Coming!” which was a game related to Toy Story and rounders.

Our last week of term 2!

This week we have been so excited for our holiday and break from school. We had our christmas disco where we danced and played games. Our favourite songs were last christmas, soda pop from K-pop demon hunters, good deeds from wicked for good, dance monkey and feliz navidad!

We have also been working on changing our art wall, and we decided to take inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh and recreate his famous painting ‘Starry night’. We had to create different shades of blue by adding white or black. We also copied his brush strokes and painted in circular motions.

In literacy we made christmas acrostic poems and enjoyed having to create sentences or think of words that started with a specific letter. We also used our description knowledge and described an elf called Bobby!

In maths we created a Venn Diagram on christmas and non-christmas items! We had to think lots about what would go in the middle. We also made a pictogram with Mr Milligan. We also became detectives with Mr Milligan and had to crack the code to answer the question – Who ate the pie? We found out that Rudolph ate the pie!

Mr McColl would like to thank everyone for the lovely cards and gifts! Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We have been continuing our writing on character description; this week we decided to describe Miss Trunchbull from our class novel Matilda. We also got to pick a scene from our book and create a comic strip of pictures. We also consolidated our spelling this week, we had lots of words which we practiced like always. We continued to work on our dictionary skills, and this week Mr Milligan got us to put words in alphabetical order.

We have started a new unit in mathematics, date handling. This week we have been looking at graphs and how to plot a bar graph successfully. We have also been continuing our work on symmetry and this week looked at grid references and how these can help us to create a symmetrical shape. We have also been using Sumdog in our maths this week, completing our diagnostic to make sure our questions are at the correct level.

In the playroom we were set a challenge to create 3D snowflakes using doily paper. This was quite a challenge, however, we all had fun! We also had a role play station where we had to act out certain characters and perform. Finally, we used the Knex to design and build a mini-Santa sleigh.

We are all excited for the last week of term!

We have moved on in our character writing and have been using our description bubbles to describe Miss Trunchbull. We have been looking at our new sound – gentle g – which sounds like a ‘j’ sound. We also learnt about St Andrew, and we wrote 5 sentences about his life.

We used the play area to look at Christmas and STEM this week. We had the choice of Christmas art hub, STEM Straws, Knex and SUMDOG. Some of us have chosen to take our artwork home.

This week we also decorated our door for Christmas. We collaged a Christmas tree, decorated baubles for it, made paper chains and presents. On the last day of term, we will take our baubles home.

Week 4

This week we have been continuing our topic of Inventors. We have been looking at Alexander Graham bell and how he invented the telephone. We also went to our creative playroom, were we had lots of challenges from making paper phone cups to inventing a marble run with straws and paper plates.

In literacy we completed spelling this week, like always. In writing we have been looking at how to describe a setting, we have been making sure we describe the setting and are not creating a story with the setting as part of it. We have improved so much since we started this unit 3 weeks ago, and we have all been successful in our learning. We also did a comprehension on Alexander Graham bell. We read the passage as a class and then answered the questions in pairs.

In maths we have been building on our times tables, developing confidence as we use them more frequently. This week we also completed a maths assessment on Sum Dog. We all got 200 coins for completing it successfully. Then we were allowed to become friends on Sum Dog, to then send gifts to our peers through the app.

In our eco group this week we discussed the importance of not littering. To help our environment we went litter picking and even found a cardboard banana!

We had a great week! Thanks for reading.
