This Week in P7a

This week might have been short, but it’s certainly been busy. We competed fiercely in two sports days. Congratulations to the winning house, Ben Chonzie.

We completed our MALT maths assessments, which covered all of our maths curriculum for primary 7, and also revised area and perimeter. In literacy we compared different characters from The Lord of the Rings. We discussed how the different settings reflect their personalities, and how The Ring of Power effects different characters.

In our final committee meetings we discussed the work we’ve done over the course of the year, and the impact this has had on the school community.

We’ve had a great first week back in P7a. We’ve explored use of camera, colour and sound as part of our film literacy unit. This Week in P7a

This week in writing we began planning for a Glasgow wide poetry competition entitled: My hidden Glasgow. We started by creating Glasgow themed mood boards, which we’ll use to plan our poems.

In maths we translated Roman numerals, and solved problems using them. We also challenged ourselves to some very long equations, which included brackets, square numbers and square roots.

We continued looking at WW2 through our class novel “The Boy in the striped pyjamas”. We also studied a range of sources to decide whether the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was necessary.

This Week in P7a

This week our numeracy focus has been the order of operations (B.O.D.M.A.S) and different multiplication strategies. This meant solving complex problems involving brackets, squared/cubed numbers and square roots.

As part of world book week we wrote some fantastic poems, about libraries. We will continue writing poetry over the next few weeks, which will be entered in a city wide competition. We also had a live lesson with novelist Jamie Gregory, which centred around his new book “bonehead”.

In health and wellbeing (as part of our learning on respecting other cultures) we’ve been creating presentations about different cultures from around the world. P7a were asked to choose a country, research the music, food and traditions of that country, and create a keynote presentation about everything they’ve learned. We’ve found out fascinating facts about Cambodia, Russia, Libya, Japan and a host of other countries.

Today we explored the theme of diversity through our class novel, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We focused on how the characters respond to the prejudice they encounter in Nazi Germany, and the importance of speaking out against facism.

P7a have been collaborating really well during our traitors game; sharing ideas and listening to each others views, as well as working together to decipher clues. Unfortunately they are yet to catch a traitor. 😕
