Primary 7a Wallacewell Primary

We’ve had  another fantastic week of learning in Primary 7a!

Our classroom is looking particularly autumnal! We created some lovely autumn leaves 🍂 to decorate our classroom, focusing on our line and shape skills. We experimented with different lines, patterns and shapes to create a range of colourful and creative designs.

In Numeracy this week, we have continued developing our understanding of fractions and percentages, applying our skills to a range of problems and challenges. We also completed our Maths assessments this week. Everyone worked hard and showed great perseverance!

We continued developing our basketball skills in PE. We have been practising our passing and dribbling while also working on our teamwork and communication.

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been working hard on our group talks about respecting differences around the world. In our groups, we have been researching different countries and learning more about their cultures, traditions and ways of life.

We are now preparing our presentations and are looking forward to sharing our learning with the class from next week. We have been developing our research, teamwork and communication skills along the way.

For our IDL learning, we have been researching influential figures who have challenged prejudice. We have been finding out about the lives and achievements of people who have worked to make the world a fairer and more accepting place.

Next week, we will use our research to begin writing biographies about our chosen influential figures. We are looking forward to finding out even more about their lives, the challenges they faced and the impact they had on others.

What a busy and exciting week we have had in class! We have been learning across lots of different subjects and have had plenty of opportunities to work together, be creative and develop new skills.

🧮 Maths

In Maths, we have been working hard on addition and subtraction as well as multiplication and division. We have also been learning about angles and practising how to identify and work with them.

🏀 PE

In PE, we have been developing our basketball skills. We practised defending, keeping possession of the ball, as well as working together as a team.

📚 Reading – Divided City

We have been enjoying reading our class novel, Divided City. We have been discussing the characters, events and important themes in the story.

Our reading has connected really well with our Breaking Barriers topic, as we have been thinking about prejudice, sectarianism, friendship and how people from different backgrounds can come together.

🤝 Breaking Barriers

As part of our Breaking Barriers topic, we have been learning about prejudice and sectarianism. We have been thinking about how unfair attitudes and behaviours can affect people and why it is important to challenge prejudice. We have also been discussing how we can create a welcoming classroom and community where everyone is treated fairly and with respect.

💚 Health and Wellbeing

In Health and Wellbeing, our focus has been on respect. We have explored what respect looks and sounds like and how we can show respect to the people around us.

✡️ Judaism

In RME, we have been learning about Judaism. We found out about Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest, and Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which was celebrated last week. We enjoyed learning about the traditions and customs connected with these important occasions.

🚀 STEM

STEM has been one of the highlights of our week. In the Creative Enquiry room, we designed and made our own boats and marble runs. This helped us develop our problem-solving, teamwork and creative-thinking skills.

✍️ Writing

We have also been getting ready for our next piece of writing. We planned our writing and thought carefully about our ideas, vocabulary and how we could organise our work.

It has been a fantastic week filled with learning, creativity, teamwork and new challenges. We are looking forward to seeing what we can achieve next week! 🌟

This week in P7a we’ve been showcasing our learning to headteacher’s from other schools.

In maths we’ve extended our understanding of data handling by creating pie charts and calculating averages (mean, median and mode).

We wrote about cherished memories from our time at Wallacewell, in preparation for our leaver’s assembly. We also created original fantasy genre characters as part of our Lord of the Rings study.

This week might have been short, but it’s certainly been busy. We competed fiercely in two sports days. Congratulations to the winning house, Ben Chonzie.

We completed our MALT maths assessments, which covered all of our maths curriculum for primary 7, and also revised area and perimeter. In literacy we compared different characters from The Lord of the Rings. We discussed how the different settings reflect their personalities, and how The Ring of Power effects different characters.

In our final committee meetings we discussed the work we’ve done over the course of the year, and the impact this has had on the school community.

P7a Curriculum Newsletter – Term 4 2025-26

This week we’ve been developing our film literacy skills by analysing The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring. In writing we created a set of instructions for a delicious pancake recipe. In maths we revised rounding and estimation. We also held auditions for our P7 leavers assembly, and began work on performing the big show.

We’ve had a great first week back in P7a. We’ve explored use of camera, colour and sound as part of our film literacy unit. In Maths we’ve been using points on a compass to discuss angles, give directions and solve problems. We also used our knowledge of angles to solve algebraic equations. In writing we’ve created details sets of instructions for games of rounders, which we’ve been enjoying playing in the sun during our P.E lessons.

This week we participated in The Edinburgh Interfaith Associations roadshow. The children were thrilled to learn about the different faiths and cultures which make up our community.

We completed our class novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

In preparation for our P7 leaver’s assembly we honed our drama skills by performing a scene from The Little Mermaid.

In Maths we continued our revision of the past term, by multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.
