Short Week in P7b

For Literacy, we continued developing our Film Literacy skills through Lord of the Rings. We focused on developing our inference skills by discussing how the ring impacts different characters throughout the story. We also explored character analysis by making comparisons and connections between characters, helping us to prepare thoughtful predictions based on what we know so far.

In Maths, we completed our maths assessments throughout the week. Everyone showed resilience and determination, using their prior knowledge and growth mindset strategies to try their very best. We are proud of the effort and positive attitudes shown by everyone.

We also enjoyed taking part in Sports Day this week. Our P7 pupils were fantastic role models, helping to set up activities and supporting younger children during some of their very first sports days. It was wonderful to see such teamwork, encouragement and leadership on display across the school.

We are also looking forward to our residential trip next week, where there will be lots of exciting activities, opportunities to challenge ourselves and plenty of fun to be had!

Our Week in P7b

In literacy, we started learning about film literacy and used our before, during and after reading skills to help us understand clips. We also made fortune tellers and wrote our own instructions, using exciting vocabulary and adverbs to make our writing clear.

In maths, we learned how to find missing angles in triangles and quadrilaterals, using our addition and subtraction skills to help us.

We also held auditions for our leaver’s show—everyone was amazing and showed lots of confidence! We have started practising our songs and can’t wait to perform for you.

A reminder that we are collecting recyclables to help fund our leaver’s party. Thank you for your support!

Welcome Back to Term 4!

Welcome back to our final term at Wallacewell Primary School! It’s been lovely to see everyone back and ready to learn.

This week in maths, we have been exploring angles. We started by identifying different types of angles, such as right, acute and obtuse. We then practised measuring angles carefully using a protractor and challenged ourselves to draw our own angles accurately. To build on this, we worked on finding missing angles, including those in complementary and supplementary pairs, some tricky thinking, but everyone showed great effort!

In writing, we completed our first instructional writing piece. We headed outside to play a game of rounders, then came back to class and wrote clear, step-by-step instructions explaining how to play. We focused on making our writing easy to follow so that someone else could use it to play the game.

We also enjoyed some film literacy work this week. We developed a script between two characters, focused on the importance of sound in a scene, and began to explore different camera movements as we started to think like directors.

Our School Trip!

This week, we visited the Wallacewell Monument to support our poetry writing. Primary 7 have entered the Lord Provost’s Poetry Competition, with the theme “My Hidden Glasgow.” We chose to focus on something meaningful and unique to our school community.

Our poetry centred on the use of the senses, and we gathered ideas both prior to and during our walk. Pupils worked hard to bring their writing to life by incorporating a range of imagery techniques, including personification, similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia.

We had a lovely trip together, creating special memories in our final year together.

Negative Numbers and Poetry!

In numeracy this week, we have been learning all about negative numbers. We talked about where we might see negative numbers in real life, such as temperatures. We practised comparing and ordering numbers, as well as adding and subtracting negative numbers.

We also continued working on our library poem which we started last week. Over the next few weeks, we will be entering a poetry competition based on the theme What Glasgow Means to Us.” We are excited to share our ideas and creativity through our poems.

In reading, we have been working hard on developing our inference skills. We practised spotting inference questions and looking for clues in the text to help us understand deeper meanings and answer the questions.

World Book Day

We had a lovely day celebrating World Book Day in P7B on Thursday. Our focus was on books linked to our current topic – World War 2.

We continued reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ and made key comparisons between our two main characters, Bruno and Shmuel. The class discussed how the boys come from very different backgrounds but share many similarities. We talked about how their friendship shows kindness and innocence, even during a very difficult time in history.

After this, we explored a range of other fiction books set during the war, including Goodnight Mr Tom and The Bletchley Riddle. Using what we have already learned about World War 2, the class then designed their own books. We created imaginative front covers and wrote our own blurbs. These turned out fantastic, with many different themes explored such as The Enigma Code, Evacuation and The Blitz.

Last Week of February

This week, we completed our final writing piece for our explanation texts. Our writing was titled “Why Did the Evacuation Happen?” We applied all the skills we have been developing, including the use of technical language and cause and effect connectives. We also incorporated advanced punctuation to further uplevel our writing. The class worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of the high standard of work produced.

In numeracy, we have completed our unit on 3D shapes, covering volume, properties and nets. We then moved on to identifying and calculating area and perimeter. Our next unit of learning will focus on negative numbers. We will explore where negative numbers appear in real life such as temperature and money.

For Health and Wellbeing, we explored into the difference between equality and equity. The class created thoughtful posters explaining both definitions and demonstrating how equality and equity are displayed within our school community.

A Short Week in P7

This week has been a short one in P7b, but there has still been lots of exciting learning taking place!

In literacy, we focused on cause-and-effect conjunctions, expanding our WW2 sentences by adding more detailed information about the war. We also linked this to our prior learning on technical language, using subject specific vocabulary to uplevel our writing even further.

For Diversity Day, we explored the blurb of Boy at the Back of the Class and discussed the challenges and strengths presented in the text. This led to thoughtful conversations about empathy, inclusion and resilience. We then created our own “diversity shields,” highlighting our backgrounds, what makes us unique and our individual strengths.

In maths, we transformed nets into 3D objects. We were able to identify, construct and match 3D shapes to their corresponding nets, applying our knowledge of properties and spatial awareness.

Well done to P7b for their continued effort and enthusiasm!
