March Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carer

Once again we are approaching the end of another busy term here in Royston Primary. With this in mind, I wanted to pass on some important information for all our parents and carers.

Parent CouncilAs mentioned previously, the Parent Council have been busy on your behalf, working in school and outside. At our recent meeting, they were able to share some information around the proposed Playground Improvements that they have been working hard to achieve. Funding is now almost in place to allow this to happen and following discussions between the company involved, the Parent Council and our Pupil Council, we hope to see this work start in the coming months. Some parents also spoke with the Parent Council about some issues around the playgrounds recently, especially in relation to scaffolding tower and its implications for playgrounds. As you can now see, the tower has been taken down and the work was completed satisfactorily. Hopefully, this will allow the playground situations to return to normal. Thanks to the parents who raised this with the Parent Council.

Parental Open Afternoon On Tuesday 31st March the children from across all the classes would like you to come in and see the hard work that has been taking place in the school in recent weeks. From 1.30 pm until 2.30 pm you are all invited to come in and find out about things such as Magic Carpets in Primary 2 or Our Community in Primary 5/4 or life as a Pirate in Primary 7, followed by teas and coffees until 3 pm. Our children and staff are busy creating learning opportunities to share with you on the day and would be delighted to see you there. Continue reading “March Newsletter”

Fundraising Art Competition

Dear Parent/Carer,

Our Active Schools Coordinator, Fraser, is hoping to visit Malawi in September and he needs our help with fundraising.

The pupil council came up with a plan to run an art competition across the whole school to raise money, to have fun and also for the chance to win a fantastic art set.

The theme is African animals and entries can be done in pen, pencil, paint, crayon or collage as long as they are no bigger than the A4 entry paper.

Pupils can buy their entry paper for 50p per sheet, and can enter as many times as they like. There will be one prize for each floor. Entries have to be returned by Wednesday the 25th March.

All entries should have the pupil’s full name and class marked clearly on the back of the paper.

The pupil council will judge the competition and the names of the 3 winners will be announced during our ACE assembly on Friday 27th March, which is also the Dress Down Day. Pupils will be encouraged to wear red, green or black clothes this day, as this is the colours of the Malawi flag. The charge for this will be £1.

Thank you in advance for your support for this worthwhile cause,

Miss Laird and the Pupil Council.

Malawi Fundraising

Dear Parent/ Carer

Fraser Gilmour, our Active Schools Coordinator is one of a group of people going to Malawi this year, representing the city and helping the children in Malawi. Malawi Leaders of Learning (MLOL) has been established to improve education in Glasgow and Malawi. It is a project and Scottish partnership that has been forged between the council’s education services and Malawi’s South West Education Division. It’s a two-way charity and development scheme aimed at sharing good practice, resources and teaching expertise between the two countries and ultimately improve the quality of learning and teaching in a challenging environment. Fraser has to raise funds to pay for his travel and has asked all the schools in the Learning Community to help. Fraser is responsible for organising Sport and Physical Activity sessions in Royston and he has been successful each year in securing Lottery Funding for Lunchtime and After School coaching. This is why all the clubs are free. The money Fraser secures pays the coaches, and we feel that we want to support and help him fund his trip to Malawi.

We will be organising fundraising events in the coming months and all money raised will go to Fraser to help fund his trip. As you know, through our Healthy Fruit Tuckshop, Malawi is supported, as the beneficiary from our profits. This is another way we are supporting Malawi, as well as Fraser.

Fraser’s contact details are below if you would like to find out more about the project or you would like to get involved with the fundraising.
