Design and Manufacture

This subject challenges pupils to see the world around them through the eyes of designers and engineers, questioning and analysing products from their function to their form through to their creation.

Students develop skills and knowledge in sketching, design development, innovation and communicating and presenting (Design Folios). In addition, students will have a practical experience creating prototypes and ‘mock ups’ of their designs. This will involve working with multiple materials such as, paper, card, plastic, wood and metals.

The course allows students to create a strong and creative portfolio which can be part of a requirement for many Engineering and Design based College or University courses.
