Chemistry

Chemistry is the study of matter – how atoms and molecules interact with each other and their environments. It helps us understand the world around us, from the water we drink and the air we breathe, to the cosmetics we apply to our skin and the mobile phones we can’t put away… All of these things can be understood by applying Chemistry.

You should take Chemistry if you:

  • Are interested in chemical reactions and finding out how important they are in world around us.
  • Are fascinated by technology and want to help develop the next amazing thing.
  • Are intrigued by medicine and how new drugs are created.
  • Want to learn new skills such as: how to be observant, how to be analytical and how to solve problems.

In S3/4 you have the option to study National 3, 4 or 5, and you will focus on the following units:

  • Unit 1: Chemical Changes and Structure
  • Unit 2: Nature’s Chemistry
  • Unit 3: Chemistry in Society

In S5/6 you are able to study Higher and we are very pleased to offer Advanced Higher as an option at Hillpark.

The department also runs weekly supported study sessions for N5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

Careers in Chemistry include:

Medicine, Pharmacy, Analytical Chemistry, Forensic Science, Veterinary Surgery, Sports Science, Toxicology, Astrochemistry, Biochemistry, Teaching, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, and much more!
